Purple Roller Safari

Explore the varied habitats and terrain of Kafue National Park with stays in two wonderfully remote bushcamps: sister camps that offer access to both the centre of the park and the wildlife-rich Busanga Plains.

Purple Roller Safari: Summary

Purple Roller Safari in a nutshell

A similar size to Wales, Kafue National Park is a remarkable destination, home to a great diversity of habitats and terrain. Its differing environments shelter a range of species, and sightings of both birdlife and game can be highly rewarding, although often not as readily available as in parks like South Luangwa or the Lower Zambezi.

The somewhat greater challenge of pursuing wildlife in the Kafue, coupled with the park's lower visitor numbers, helps makes this safari feel truly offbeat. Guests will experience a tremendous sense of seclusion in the wild, enhanced by the remote and contrasting locations of the two sister camps, Musekese and Ntemwa-Busanga Camp, and their range of activities.

Musekese occupies a superb location at the centre of the park; indeed, its owners were praised for venturing into such a previously unexplored area when it was first established. Here, day and night 4WD game drives are possible, as well as boating and fishing trips along the Kafue River. The main emphasis, however, is on walking safaris, where guests might venture on foot with experienced guides into regions inaccessible for vehicles.

At Ntemwa-Busanga, you'll explore the woodland areas surrounding Busanga Plains, where birdlife is prolific and antelope species like roan and sable roam. Sharing the same high standards as Musekese, Ntemwa offers simpler accommodation in keeping with the adventurous, rustic appeal of the trip.

Musekese Camp

Days 1-4

Overlooking a permanent lagoon in the Kafue National Park, Musekese lies in an area of mature riverine trees. Owned and run by the enthusiastic Phil and Tyrone since 2013, it was previously a simple bushcamp on the edge of a floodplain near the Kafue River, but after significant renovations it was shifted in 2016 to an area the owners call “Eden”.
