Ian and Michelle - Crocodile Bush Camp review

Of the two walking bush camps we visited, Crocodile was our favourite. Our grass hut was very comfortable and well appointed as with all the camps related to Tafika, but in this case in addition to a view over the plain, our hut happened to be right next to a small watering-hole maintained by the camp. This allowed our own room to double as a game-viewing hide where we watched antilope, monkeys, Baboons, birds, and warthogs enjoy the pool, without any of them being aware of our presence.

As with the Chikoko Camp, the food was outstanding using a very rudimentary kitchen. Our great trail guide Isaac and the camp staff made our stay a thoroughly enjoyable experience I'd recommend to anyone who likes a good hike.

lovely walking in June

We walked in as the first visitor this year. The staff & food were excellent as usual. We have been before but not in the early season.

It was long grass, fewer easy-to-see animals, more raptors and other birds. The grass covers the holes made earlier by elephants & buffalo in the black cotton soil which means walking there requires care. Alex our guide was excellent, and also good company as we were the sole visitors so we were able to talk about life and progress being made in Zambia.

A lovely lodge at this time of the year.

Crocodile Bushcamp review

Crocodile is a small bushcamp with rooms in the Tafika stryle, if less elaborate (no tiled floors, but quite similar). The setting is great and the water hole attracts lots of life for easy viewing from the camp.

The food retains the high Tafika quality with fresh supplies being walked in almost daily.

Between Crocodile and Chikoko, I prefer the latter, due to its upstairs sleeping, but they are both super little camps with excellent staff and guides.

Crocodile Bushcamp review

Beautiful camp in very wild surrounding.

We were not so lucky with our sightings here, but our guide Stephen was excellent.

Not long enough at Crocodile!

Hard to believe that the vegetation/landscape could be so different from that around Chikoko and yet we had not walked for that long. Stunning location.

As with Chikoko we loved the jug of hot water for morning washing.

We wished we had arranged to spend at least another night at Crocodile - one wasn't enough.

Relaxed and comfortable

Very relaxed two days with Isaac. And we learnt a lot, never a dull moment. We were looked after like royalties. Special could go through fire to serve out tea. Maybe the best scout we came upon. Isaac and and scout had full control at all times, even on the evening walk when we went "hunting" the leopard almost stumbling on a 14 feet croc on land and came back just a few minutes before it got dark. No leopard. The hyena laughed just behind us.

We had very interesting talks in the evening at all Remote Africa bush camps with the guides about Zambian culture, social pattern, family life etc. They were very open in sharing their beliefs and their lives with us. As we were going to Kawaza Isaac had some chima made for us to try and to learn how to eat.

Another characteristic of the guides was their joy of being out in the nature, big animals - small animals, big trees - small plants, big birds - small birds, or just sit still for an hour looking at was coming and going. And so as we sat there a heard of 600 buffalos approached us.

Crocodile Bushcamp review

Very nice walk-in camp. Isaac continued as our guide, and was excellent. Game was plentiful, but perhaps not as prevalent as at Chikoko.

Staff was friendly, meals were excellent, the room was comfortable.

Crocodile Bushcamp review

See Tafika, again, everything was first class. Mention should be made, as with all camps on this trip, (and previous trip), that Barb's dietary requirement a were dealt with most admirably.

Good bush feel at Crododile

A nice, well located camp, comfortable rooms, attentive staff and a good bush feel. Our room was very close to the waterhole. Our guide Stephen spotted a leopard drinking there while we were at dinner.

The walking was interesting but we question whether in October when walking time is limited by the heat there should be a long tea stop. However, that's just a minor thought and we had no other issues.
