Honey Badger Safari: Day-by-day

More detailed information of what each day entails, and the various places you’ll stay on the Honey Badger Safari. Everything we do is completely tailor-made so while this is an idea which works well, we’ll always design an itinerary just for you.

Day 1

Starts: Maun Airport

Day 1

Maun to the CKGR by light aircraft & 4WD

Board your light aircraft in Maun for the flight to the CKGR, landing after around 40 minutes beneath the open skies of this vast reserve. Here, a guide from Tau Pan will be waiting to drive you the short distance to camp, often in time for an afternoon activity.

Tau Pan Camp
Days 1-4

Tau Pan Camp

3 nights
Full Board & ActivitiesCentral Kalahari Game Reserve, Botswana

The first permanent camp to open inside the Central Kalahari Game Reserve (CKGR) – and still one of only two within the reserve – Tau Pan sits on a low sand ridge with commanding views over the surrounding plains to Tau Pan itself, and beyond.

"Tau Pan is in a lovely setting. Our guide and tracker were both exceptional."

Arrived 23 Mar 2023, 3 nights

On our last visit in June 2017 we popped in for a drink and relaxed by the pool. Tau Pan camp has comfortable accommodation in an area that offers some of Botswana's best summer game viewing (December–May), with some species such as springbok and gemsbok not found in the Okavango or Kwando–Linyanti areas. We were impressed by the enthusiastic young team and really liked the layout of the camp, which has fabulous views over the surrounding landscape. Furthermore, the birding here is unforgettable! Day 4

Light aircraft & 4WD from the CKGR to Kwara

There's normally time for a last activity at Tau Pan before boarding your light aircraft. During the flight, you'll have a leisurely hour or more to absorb the changing landscapes below, perhaps touching down in Maun, before landing in the north-eastern Delta region - and a final short drive to Kwara.

Kwara Camp
Days 4-7

Kwara Camp

With guides whose focus is firmly on the big predators, Kwara is in a perfect area of the Okavango. In this private reserve, wildlife – both predators and prey – can be prolific. To maximise the chances of big-cat sightings, every 4WD excursion is led by a guide and tracker, and the guides are in constant contact by radio. It's all about the wildlife here – the camp even has a "digital detox" policy to ensure that your experience won't be marred by pesky emails or other digital disturbances during your stay.

Rather more serene, both mokoros and a double-decker boat are on hand for effortless exploration of the lily-strewn waterways, perhaps combined with a guided walk.

Equally, with seasonal floodplains and a permanent lagoon in front of the island-based camp, and mature trees affording superb bird cover, it’s tempting to let the wildlife come to you.

In the huge “tented rooms”, beds, sofas, verandas, even baths are carefully sited to make the most of the views.

If you fancy company, a short stroll brings you to a thatched, open-sided structure complete with lounge, dining table, library, bar and curio shop. Colonial-style furniture combines effortlessly with simple stretched-canvas walls to give a contemporary-chic feel – designed for adults only.

There are proper pools – complete with bars and sunloungers – at each end of camp, and a firepit down by the lagoon. And arguably of greatest importance, all share that captivating outlook. See our full report on Kwara Camp

Helicopter Flight - Botswana

Various: from 30 minutes to half a day.

Low-flying, agile and offering superb views, helicopters are an ideal way to move around the Okavango Delta. You can use them instead of fixed-wing inter-lodge transfers or as an addition to other wildlife watching activities, and of course, helicopters can hover to allow that perfect pic, whereas fixed-wings can’t.
