This varied Botswana safari explores different areas of the Okavango Delta, the drier private concessions further north, in Botswana's Linyanti region as well as the Kalahari Salt Pans and the Central Kalahari south of the Delta. The bird-watching is excellent in many of these areas, particularly at Pelo but the trip really focuses more on big game in these wildlife-rich concessions.
You will stay a total of 20 nights at seven great safari camps: Chobe under Canvas, Savute under Canvas, Selinda Explorers Camp, Pelo Camp, Machaba Camp, Nxai Pan Camp and Tau Pan Camp.
This Botswana safari can also easily be combined with a visit to Livingstone in Zambia or Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe to see the Victoria Falls. See our trips to Livingstone or trips to Victoria Falls for examples of the add-on options, and the costs.
The trip is an individual trip, and can be tailor-made and adapted to suit you.
2 nights at Chobe Under Canvas (full board & activities) | Chobe National Park, Botswana
From Kasane, you'll be driven to your first camp Chobe under Canvas
in the Chobe National Park. You'll be based here for 2 nights
of top game-viewing and a very authentic experience at Chobe Under Canvas.
3 nights at Savute Under Canvas (full board & activities) | Chobe National Park, Botswana
A light air transfer then takes you from Chobe to your next camp situated in Savute (still in the Chobe National Park), which will be your next base. Savute under Canvas
will offer a different experience from the previous two nights spent in the Chobe. The Savute Channel provides a watery lifeline to the otherwise arid environment here. With an abundance of wildlife and plenty of beautiful landscapes this is a fantastic stop off for the 3 nights
3 nights at Selinda Explorers Camp (full board & activities) | Kwando-Linyanti area, Botswana
After your morning activity in Savute, you are driven to the airstrip for a light-aircraft flight to Selinda, followed by a 50-minute game drive to Selinda Explorers Camp
. Your time here will be spent walking and on game drives, as well as canoeing trips when water levels permit. Selinda Explorers Camp is a great choice for anyone looking for a traditional tented camp experience, and it's location beside the Spillway is lovely.
2 nights at Pelo Camp (full board & activities) | Okavango Delta Safari Reserves, Botswana
Another light aircraft flight will take you to the Jao Concession where you"ll be transferred to Pelo Camp
. This is a wet camp with the focus predominantly on mokoro and motorboat activities, which makes the most of seeing the spectacular birdlife that is on offer.
3 nights at Machaba Camp (full board & activities) | Moremi Game Reserve, Botswana
After your morning activity, you head to the nearby airstrip on a short 4WD game-drive and board your light aircraft transfer to Machaba
for 3 nights
. The camp is located along the Khwai riverfront in the Khwai Community Concession, looking across to the Moremi Game Reserve. A combination of excellent, hands-on management, very good guiding, a secluded location and fantastic game viewing all combine to make this superb value. Although the Khwai area can sometimes feel busy by the standards of Botswana's private concessions, Machaba is located in a relatively quiet region, and offers game drives in both the Khwai Community Concession and the Moremi Game Reserve.
2 nights at Nxai Pan Camp (full board & activities) | Kalahari's Salt Pans, Botswana
From Machaba you will head via light-aircraft to the Nxai Pan National Park south of the Delta. Here you"ll stay at Nxai Pan Camp
for 2 nights
. This modern camp faces a busy waterhole that is a magnet for elephants during the dry season. Game densities here vary throughout the year " but it is as its best in the summer months (December to March), when the annual Zebra migration
passes through the pans. Predator numbers also swell at this time of year too. Activities at Nxai Pan focus on day and night drives. Because the camp is in a national park, however, no off-road driving or night drives are allowed.
3 nights at Tau Pan Camp (full board & activities) | Central Kalahari Game Reserve, Botswana
Your final camp on this trip is Tau Pan Camp
a short flight further south in the Central Kalahari Game Reserve. The camp sits on a sand ridge overlooking a filled waterhole and the expansive Tau Pan. Like Nxai Pan, the game viewing here is at its most spectacular during the rainy season, when the nutritious grasses attract large herds of plains game and they in turn attract the predators, mainly lion and cheetah. Nevertheless, at any time of year, the Central Kalahari offers the chance to spot some different species including: springbok, gemsbok, and bat-eared foxes as well as many birds not found in the lusher reserves further north.
After a short light aircraft flight back to Maun, you'll connect with your own onward arrangements.
