Peponi Beach Holiday

Peponi Beach Holiday: In full

This 6-night stay on Lamu is based at Peponi, one of Kenya's oldest and best beach hotels. Peponi is informal and and low-key and yet by a combination of location, consistency and outstanding food has acquired a well-deserved international reputation among adventurous beach-lovers. It's located at the eastern end of Lamu's fabulous beach and only 15 minutes by dhow or 45 minutes by barefoot stroll to Lamu Town.

This trip works well as a stand-alone beach holiday or can be easily combined with any Kenya safari.

Days 1-6

6 nights at Peponi (bed & breakfast) | Kenya Coast, Kenya

Peponi is in the heart of Shela village, but is only a short dhow ride from Lamu town.Fly from Nairobi's Wilson domestic airport to Lamu. A boat captain will be there to take you to the hotel, a 15-minute boat journey away across the creek.

For the next six days, relax on the car-free island of Lamu, where life proceeds at the speed of a dhow - or a donkey - and the passage of time is marked by the tides and the call of the muezzins in the island's many mosques.

Slip out of your room at dawn and walk along the pristine beach; relax by the pool; or take a dhow into Lamu town to visit the market or the crafts shops and museums. If you want to be more active, you can organise a snorkelling trip or some windsurfing, or a longer full-day boat trip to explore some of the creeks and other islands of the Lamu archipelago.

Peponi's wonderful breakfasts are included in your stay, with lunch and dinner extra, which you can either have at Peponi, in Lamu town, or at one off the restaurants in Shela, the small village behind Peponi.

Day 7

Transfer to Lamu Airport for your flight back to Wilson in Nairobi where your trip finishes. Or transfer to a Nairobi hotel or a further flight if you are staying longer in Kenya.
