Mazambala Island Lodge review
Strange charge for water half litre £1. No other water available! --Good food.
Fishing ok.
Well planned room. Basic but good.
A real oasis of peace and tranquility
A beautiful island position with lovely views across the flood plain. The staff were exceedingly helpful and informative.
The game drive to Bwabwata NP will be remembered not just for the excellent game but for its scenic beauty. The island nature walk was also a lovely informative experience.
A place where we would love to return!
Great boat trips at Mazambala Island Lodge
Loved the location and the atmosphere was very welcoming and relaxed. The owner/staff were very helpful.
I feel the lodge could have been cleaner. It needed some tender loving care.
Mazambala Island Lodge review
We were ferried out to the lodge by boat and we felt like we were on a Bond film set the way we twisted and turned through the reeds.
The service was brilliant, the staff friendly, the facilities excellent and just all in all it had all the options you could want for a relaxing time.
The setting of the lodge and its suroundings are stunning.
Nice setting but thats all
Of all the places we stayed on our trip 8 places in all I suppose there had to be one we didnt enjoy, lovely setting on the island but thats about it, food not that good, service was terrible and our room was right beside the camp fire they lit at night so none of us could sleep with all the talking, not much fun when you have 2 young children with you, pity we booked 2 nights instead of 1.

this place had a great location, loved the tours ( nature walk and safari ) we went on. but we and other guests were annoyed by the fact that you could not drink the water and they only gave you a small bottle of water to drink. and after that you had to buy water! seemed cheap and short sighted. made you question what else you were getting taken on.

We were very disappointed with this lodge.
The local people were friendly and helpful and the one guided tour we did ( Nature walk ) the guide was very knowledgable and we learnt a lot. Samantha - I presume was the undermanager - tried hard, but, the manager was nonexistent most of the time and totally unsuitable for the job in the absence of the owner.
In fact the atmosphere was non existenet - I know that this is a quiet time of the year for them, but this should not mean that the person in charge does not make himself known and introduce himself to his customers!
Is it right that a lodge of this rating and price should be left in sole charge of a 24 and 20yr old? We would not recommend this lodge to anyone. I would like to think we were unfortunate and that things will change in the future. The swimming pool was dirty.
Expert Africa comments
On reading these travellers comments, Johan, the manager of Mazambala Island Lodge, was quite upset that these clients did not enjoy their stay here. He wanted us to explain the reasons for his absence at the lodge and why the pool was not at its best.
Johan usually plays an active role at Mazambala however unfortunately he had a heart attack in January and was still recovering and was therefore less attentive with travellers. He assures us that he will once again be back in full force at the lodge now and will be making an effort to welcome guests personally again.
Johan agreed that the pool was indeed dirty when these clients were there and would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused by this. However at the time of these travellers visit the swimming pool pump was broken and the lodge was waiting for the spare parts. The beauty of Mazambala Island Lodge is that it is situated in the bush, quite a long way from any major town, but this does also mean that parts are not easy to come by very quickly. The pump has now been replaced so future travellers can be assured that the swimming pool once again clear.
We are sorry that these travellers had a less then satisfactory stay here; however we are assured that the problems they had will not be repeated.
Unforgettable owner & location
Excellent stop to discover the Kwando river in Caprivi strip. Excellent activity on the river.
Room basic. Good food (no more).

Too bad we couldn't join a walk, which would have been a nice change instead of driving, but apparently it was too wet around. Morning boat trip and afternoon drive were very good and guides were well informed.
In spite of the location and size the place feels run rather like a hotel rather than a lodge.
Mazambala Island Lodge review
Only a couple of miles off the main tar road, there was a secure parking area , before the boat transfer to the lodge about 10 mins.
The room was basic , no freeby shampoos etc .but clean and tidy. Again we were the only people staying , but that did nor spoil our enjoyment. The view of the swamps from the raised viewing tower was spectacular .
The evening boat ride through the swamps towards the edge of the national park was fantasic. Great birds and varying animals along the banks in the company of a super guide Arris. The meals were fine and although we did not see much on the morning drive in the Bwabwata national park because of the denseness of the foliage ,it was still very enjoyable.
Not a luxury camp , but excellent value for money.
