A Good Choice
Reviewed 2 weeks ago
Very conveniently situated just a few minutes walk from the main street of the attractive town of Swakopmund. Friendly and efficient staff ensure Central runs like clockwork. Smart and clean, there is a guest lounge with comfortable furniture and complimentary sherry in the evening. Free wi-fi in the public areas. Breakfast is excellent.
There is a complimentary drinks station on the first floor landing but this is not ideal as you are conscious of making a noise which could wake other guests when making an early morning coffee. We had room 6, which though small had our required twin beds and bath/shower, and was fully equipped. The bath was a welcome luxury in what can be the very cool micro-climate of Swakopmund. This is a comfortable base and a good choice.
Central Guest House
Stayed in the family room in the annex building. Bathroom had some mould on the walls and the place had a damp feel and smell. Didn't feel the need to mention this as we only stayed 2 nights.
Staff were very friendly and booked a trip for us. Breakfast excellent.
A good place to stay in Swakopmund.
The guest house is very central as the name implies.
The rooms are comfortable and the staff very hospitable.
Really helpful staff and good location
Comfortable rooms and a good location to walk around town.
Anya, if I spelled that right, was great in helping to sort out our passports being left behind at the previous location. Without her not sure what we would have done.
Breakfasts were really nice too.
Had a great Marine Dune day with Sandwich Harbour 4X4.
My review is probably slightly over shadowed by the fact that I really disliked Swakopmund. Don't take this as universal - my husband loved it. The guesthouse itself was beautiful with a fantastic selection of pastries and cooked food for breakfast. We had a television in the room which was the only one we saw during our time in Namib.
The owners were really warm and inviting. Yet, I couldn't wait to leave Swakop, so probably didn't notice all the other lovely details. The only negative I have is the bathrooms which were really cramped.
In case you are wondering why I disliked the town - it was the coldest days of our trip by a mile, there were people everywhere and I became accustomed to the peace and quiet of the tents and it wasn't visually a very pleasing town. The activities on offer were wonderful though.
High standards at Central Guest House
The rooms were comfortable, nice bed linen, very clean, excellent showers. Lovely helpful hosts and good breakfast.
We weren't so keen on the decor however - but it was a safe, clean and convenient place to spend two nights if you want to visit Swakopmund.
Whilst in Swakopmund, we organised an activity Kayaking at Pelican Point. They commented:
Magical experience kayaking amongst the seals.
We loved this trip. Jeanne is terrific and very knowlegeable and fantastically well-organized.
We were bowled over by the flamingoes, the seals and the dolphins. An extraordinary once-in-a-lifetime experience, not to be missed. It made our stay in Swakopmund.
Central Guest House review
The bedrooms were on the cool side as they had a stone floor and were situated off the courtyard.
The breakfasts were good and they made us a packed lunch at short notice/
Comfortable, friendly, and convenient
For us, Central Guest House was an ideal place to stay for three days in Swakopmund. It was easy to find, with secure off-street parking, and a 5-minute walk away from the centre and sea front. Our room (No. 5) was spacious and well equipped, and it was nice to be able to hang up clothes in a big wardrobe for a change. The communal lounge was ideal for one of us to spead out and write postcards, while the other reported home via the internet. Owners and staff were friendly and exceptionally helpful - phoning to confirm the arrangements for our outings with Turnstone Tours and Eco Marine, arranging an early breakfast on a Sunday so we could get to Walvis Bay on time for our trip, and getting laundry done on a Sunday too.
We have no hesitation in recommending Central - if we ever returned to Swakopmund we would be very happy to stay there
Whilst in Swakopmund these guests took a day excursion to the coast south of Swakopmund. This is what they said about it: Educational and exhilarating - what a day !
On our trip to Sandwich Harbour we were lucky enough to have Bruno Nebe all to ourselves for the day. And what a day - the driving was exhilarating, the wildlife was fascinating, and the views from the top of the dunes by the sea were spectacular. And all this came with Bruno's good company and intimate knowledge of the natural history and cultural history of Namibia. Oh - and a delicious spread of home-cooked food for lunch.
They also opted for a kayaking excursion on Walvis Bay Lagoon upon which they commented: And we would also want to return with Jeanne and her husband to kayak with the seals at Pelican Point. Paddling around the placid bay with excitable seals, eager to jump like dolphins right beside you, and even nibble playfully at your paddle, was a magical experience. Jeanne even takes photos and videos to e-mail back to you at home so you can re-live the experience.
Central Guest House review
The room we stayed in was excruciatingly small - From one side of the bed one could touch the wall, there was only 1 foot clearance at the bottom of the bed, and acrobatics were needed to get into the bathroom as the door filled most of the bathroom
The service was very good from the receptionist and the position is good
My rating is based on the room. You really have to be fussy about what room you get. It is a converted private house, so all the rooms vary
nice and central
you can reach everything by foot, safe parking lot, very helpful staff that speaks even fluent germanRead more about the whole trip
