This great-value self-drive safari combines superb wildlife viewing and spectacular waterways as you journey over a period of 13 days from Namibia to Botswana across the Caprivi Strip before ending at Victoria Falls. From Namibia's capital of Windhoek you'll encounter increasingly verdant landscapes as you head north-east via Waterberg Plateau and through the Caprivi region, visiting various game parks including Mahango and Bwabwata in Namibia and Chobe in Botswana.


Day 1

1 night at Elegant Guesthouse (bed & breakfast) | Windhoek, Namibia

The Elegant Guesthouse is situated in the residential area of Klein Windhoek.On arrival at Windhoek Airport you collect your hire car and then it's about 45 minutes' drive to the capital city where you'll spend your first night in Namibia. Pass the rest of the day exploring Windhoek at your leisure and relax in the peaceful setting at the welcoming Elegant Guesthouse.

Day 2

1 night at Waterberg Camp (bed & breakfast) | Waterberg Plateau National Park, Namibia

Waterberg Camp is situated at the base of the cliff of the Waterberg Plateau.You drive through commercial farmland and the rural town of Okahandja on your way to Waterberg Plateau, a striking flat-topped mountain jutting out of the surrounding Kalahari plains. There's time to hike to the top of the plateau to soak in the elevated views and discover the rich vegetation and birdlife along various walking trails on the slopes of Waterberg. The top of the extensive plateau is a protected haven for wildlife, including rare and endangered species, which can be seen on an optional guided game drive. Your accommodation in this remarkable area is at the historic site of Waterberg Camp.

Day 3

1 night at Roys Restcamp (bed & breakfast) | Central Highlands, Namibia

Roy's Restcamp in the Northern Kalahari...Head north-east into the fertile and prosperous region of the Otavi Triangle, known for its mineral and agricultural wealth. It's worth stopping at Hoba meteorite, the largest in the world of its kind, before continuing through Grootfontein to your destination about 55km north of the town. Your overnight stop is in a lovely bush setting with gentle walking trails, great birdlife and rustic accommodation at Roys Restcamp.

Days 4-6

3 nights at Ndhovu Safari Lodge (half board) | Caprivi Strip, Namibia

Ndhovu Safari Lodge stands on the east bank of the Kavango River.When you cross the veterinary fence into the contrasting Kavango Region you'll see the local Kavango people working the communal land, tending cattle, cultivating sorghum, millet and maize. They are also excellent woodcarvers, selling their wares at various roadside markets which you'll pass on your way to Mahango National Park. In addition to varied wildlife, including rare sable and roan antelope, Mahango's mixed riverine and woodland habitats attract a wonderful diversity of bird species too. Whilst staying at Ndhovu Safari Lodge, explore the area independently in your vehicle or join any of the optional guided activities, such as boat cruises, village visits and game drives.

Days 7-8

2 nights at Namushasha Lodge (bed & breakfast) | Caprivi Strip, Namibia

Namushasha Lodge is situated along the bank of the Kwando River.Drive through Bwabwata National Park to its eastern boundary by the tiny town of Kongola where you will stay two nights on an island within the Kwando River floodplains. Your location allows access into Bwabwata National Park and Mudumu National Park we suggest taking advantage of local knowledge by joining a lodge guide on optional guided activities such as game drives, river cruises, nature walks and fishing excursions offered during your stay at the simply designed and friendly Namushasha Lodge.

Days 9-10

2 nights at Garden Lodge (full board & activities) | Chobe National Park, Botswana

Garden Lodge a great stop for self-drive travellers wishing to visit Chobe & Victoria Falls.Heading further east, the route today takes you via the bustling town of Katima Mulilo and then across the Ngoma Border into Botswana. Travel through Chobe National Park to reach Kasane, the main hub for exploring this popular game reserve which is famous for its wildlife and high concentration of elephant. As your guided activities are included in your two night stay here, you drop off your hire car on arrival and a lodge guide will treat you to game drives and boat cruises whilst staying at the comfortable Garden Lodge. Please note that Chobe National Park fees are not included in your stay at The Garden Lodge and will be charged as an extra cost payable direct.

Days 11-12

2 nights at Avani Victoria Falls (bed & breakfast) | Livingstone & Victoria Falls, Zambia

Avani is the closest hotel to the great Victoria Falls - barely 500m away!Begin with a short road transfer to the confluence of the Chobe and Zambezi rivers and then it's a quick boat crossing to the Zambia border at Kazungula. From here you continue by road transfer to Livingstone, where the mighty Zambezi River cascades more than 100m over Victoria Falls. You'll stay two nights outside of Livingstone town within easy walking distance of the spectacular Falls, allowing you to wander along the cobbled walkways to a number of stunning viewpoints from the conveniently located Zambezi Sun.

Day 13

There's usually time for a leisurely morning before you are transferred to Livingstone Airport to connect with your own onward arrangements
