This luxurious safari combines two iconic wildlife experiences, trekking the mountain gorillas in Rwanda and game viewing in the northern Serengeti. This trip sees you travel in style, staying at two of the top lodges in each area, Bisate in Rwanda and <Lamai in the northern Serengeti.


Day 1

1 night at Kigali Marriott Hotel (bed & breakfast) | Kigali, Rwanda

The Marriott is a smart international hotel in the centre of Kigali.Arriving in the morning you will be met by your private vehicle and guide who will be with you for the duration of your time in Rwanda. You will be able to spend the day exploring the city before heading to your city hotel in Kigali for the night to rest and prepare for the day ahead.

Day 2

1 night at Bisate Lodge (full board) | Volcanoes National Park, Rwanda

You'll meet your private guide and 4WD and start your day with a Kigali city tour and a visit to the Genocide Memorial. This is a humbling experience and gives you a good insight in to the history of the country, whilst also showing you just how far the country has come since 1994. After lunch at the Hotel des Mille Collines you will start on your journey to the Volcanoes National Park. You driver-guide is a great source of information and will be happy to answer any questions you may have along the way. After around two-hours you'll arrive at your lodge. You'll stay for 3 nights at Bisate Lodge, which is situated fairly close to the park head quarters, which is where you will gather before the primate treks. With six villas, a striking design, and beautiful views, Bisate is undoubtedly one of the most luxurious lodges in the area.

Day 3

1 night at Bisate Lodge (full board) | Volcanoes National Park, Rwanda

After an early breakfast, you'll head to the park headquarters to meet your guide with whom you'll spend the morning tracking the endangered golden monkeys. The walk to find them is generally easier than to the gorillas, and it can help you acclimatise to the altitude and terrain. It will also test your photographic skills as they can move fairly quickly; it is a good introduction to life in the Volcanoes National Park. Returning for lunch and a hot shower, you will have the afternoon free to do as you please. Your driver will be at your disposal, so perhaps explore the local villages, or the nearby lakes of Burera or Ruhondo. Back at Bisate there are a range of gentle activities on offer, including guided nature walks and wine tasting.

Day 4

1 night at Bisate Lodge (full board) | Volcanoes National Park, Rwanda

It will be another early morning - you'll meet at the park's headquarters for a briefing on the etiquette of visiting mountain gorillas. An experienced park ranger will lead you to one of the habituated groups of gorillas, where you have one amazing hour to observe these delightful, human-like primates. It is a breath-taking experience that you will never forget! Again, you can decide what to do during the afternoon, perhaps explore the surrounding areas further, or just enjoy relaxing around the lodge - taking in both the birdlife and the views.

Day 5

1 night at Kigali Marriott Hotel (bed & breakfast) | Kigali, Rwanda

The Marriott is a smart international hotel in the centre of Kigali.Return to the park headquarters to be briefed on the gorilla group you will track today. The different groups very significantly in their behavior and how long you must trek to reach them, so your experience can be quite different. Your guide can put in requests for you if you have a certain group you'd like to see, although these can never be guaranteed. Following your gorilla trek you will be met by your private guide and vehicle and slowly make your way back to Kigali where you will spend a second night at the Kigali Marriott.

Days 6-9

4 nights at Lamai Serengeti (full board & activities) | Serengeti Migration Area, Tanzania

Lamai Serengeti has some of the Serengeti's best views...After a very early breakfast, you'll be dropped at Kigali airport where you'll catch a small plane into Tanzania. Stop briefly at Mwanza to pass through immigration before hopping back on the plane into the northern Serengeti. You'll be met at the airstrip by a experienced safari guide from Lamai who will slowly drive you back to camp, keep your camera ready and your eyes peeled for wildlife as you will be on safari from the moment you arrive. You’ll spend the next four-nights at Lamai Serengeti. This is a beautiful, high quality safari lodge set amidst a large boulders and with wonderful views over the plains below. Spend your days discovering the wildlife of the northern Serengeti, either in a 4WD vehicle or possibly heading out on foot on a walking safari. If you are here between July and October then you may be able to experience the wildebeest migration too!

Day 10

Enjoy your final game drive in the northern Serengeti and bid farewell to your guide before hopping on a light aircraft flight back to Kilimanjaro where you will finish this part of your itinerary. You might head back to Kilimanjaro to fly home, or fly elsewhere in Africa, or if you're in need of a little rest and relaxation, you can catch a flight down to Zanzibar or the coast!
