Enjoy the best of both worlds by combining two entirely different islands into one holiday. Immerse yourself in the atmosphere and culture of Zanzibar’s Stone Town, then fly south to a tranquil beach hideaway on the small tropical island of Mafia.

Your first three nights will be at the enchanting Emerson Spice in Stone Town, a historic old building that is ideally located in the centre of this UNESCO World Heritage Site. You’ll then have five nights to unwind by the ocean at Pole Pole, discovering the laid-back charms of Mafia Island and snorkelling over tropical coral reefs in the warm waters of the Indian Ocean.


Days 1-3

3 nights at Emerson Spice (bed & breakfast) | Stone Town, Zanzibar

Emerson Spice is one of the most stylish and memorable hotels in Stone Town.At Dar es Salaam, you will be transferred to the domestic terminal for your light aircraft flight to Zanzibar. Here you will be met by your driver for the 15-minute drive to Stone Town, where you will spend three nights at the Emerson Spice. Converted from an old Zanzibar palace, this beautifully designed hotel is ideally located in the centre of Stone Town for exploring the surrounding area. Discover the delights of this old Swahili trading town; watch the ships from the waterfront, explore the bustling markets, and seek out the perfect café for a cool drink.

Days 4-8

5 nights at Pole Pole (full board) | Mafia Island, Tanzania

Pole Pole is a tiny, relaxed beach resort beside a sleepy beach on Mafia IslandToday you will be transferred from Stone Town to Zanzibar Airport, in time for your second light-aircraft flight, to Mafia Island. Much smaller than Zanzibar, Mafia has a very laidback feel with just a handful of places to stay – including Pole Pole, a tranquil little beach lodge that will be your home for five nights. Situated on the edge of Chole Bay, it’s in a prime location for snorkelling and diving, with crystal clear waters and some superb aquatic life on the tropical coral reefs. And between October and February, there’s the chance to snorkel with whale sharks, too!

Day 9

After lunch on your final day you will be driven to Mafia Airport where you will connect onto a late afternoon flight back to Dar es Salaam where your itinerary will end.
