This is an amazing off-beat holiday to southern Tanzania's Ruaha National Park. It spends 5 nights at one of the very best camps in Tanzania – Kichaka Expeditions. There is plenty of time to enjoy safaris by open 4WD, but by far the biggest draw here is the excellent walking safaris led by Andrew (Moli) Molinaro. The camp is completely mobile so there's even an option to spend one or two nights' fly-camping out in the bush.
In Dar es Salaam you have a 4 a two and a half hour flight to Ruaha National Park, you land at Msembe Airstrip where you will be met by your guide and host Moli. He will then take you on a nice long game drive into the wilderness. This may take up to three hours depending on the camp's current location. You'll have a fabulous bush lunch and refreshments en route before arriving at the camp late afternoon or early evening and settle in after a warm welcome.
You'll leave early in the morning on foot after breakfast. You'll walk for approximately 10 km seeking out the highlights of that particular area. Depending on what direction and distance you cover during the walk you will either return to camp on foot or be collected by vehicle for a freshly cooked meal waiting that will be waiting for you. For all Afternoon activities there is a choice, from learning about tracking, short walks into the vast Kopje and inselberg systems (huge rock outcrops), specialist birding, and normal game drives to name but a few.
Today is another early morning departure on foot after breakfast as you push further into Ruaha's wilderness. Same distances and time involved as the day before with a return to the Base Camp for hot showers and a leisurely lunch. After lunch the usual afternoon activities will apply with a return to camp for campfire drinks and dinner.
Back out on foot again after an early breakfast this morning. The mission of this mornings walk is to aim to reach tonights Flycamp spot by foot. A fair distance of 10-15 Km will ensue to finish up for lunch at the fully set up Flycamp with hot showers waiting. You can then choose to doze in the shade of your tent or opt for the usual set of afternoon activities available.
The final days walking will take you to newer areas. After an early breakfast you will head out further from the Fly-camp for a full mornings walk to be collected by the vehicle and returned to the Fly-camp in time for lunch and a small rest. The normal afternoon activity choices will be available.
A much deserved lie-in greets you on your last day and there is no hurry to make your way to breakfast. After your leisurely meal you will make your farewells to the camp crew and make your way slowly to the Msembe area for the scheduled flight back to Dar es Salaam, where you can continue onto one of our beach add-on trips to Zanzibar, or connect onto your own international flights.
