Puku safari

This great-value Zambia safari concentrates on the north side of Zambia's largest reserve, Kafue National Park, where it spends 7 nights exploring the Busanga Plains and the woodlands around Lufupa, which are so famous for their leopards; this trip uses very comfortable tented camps and is accompanied by a top professional guide.

Solomon Tevera is the specialist guide who usually runs our Puku Safari. He joined the Zambian Wilderness team in 2006. With a vast range of experience in all sorts of guiding (including river guiding) and a great personality, he will be concentrating on leading small groups through the park. Solomon is a very popular guide and is a great host for the guests that we send to this remote part of Zambia.

Day 1
Starting from London Heathrow on a Friday evening, your scheduled British Airways overnight flight takes you directly to Lusaka.

Days 2-3 Kafue National Park, Zambia
Lufupa Tented Camp Landing in Lusaka early on Saturday morning, you will be met at the airport and helped through immigration and luggage collection. There may be a short wait at the airport for your group to join up, and then you will be flown by light aircraft for about 90 minutes to Lufupa Airstrip, in Kafue National Park. You'll be met at the airstrip and it's then a gentle safari drive until you reach your first camp…
Lufupa Tented Camp (full board & activities)
Here you will spend 2 nights exploring the area in open 4x4 safari vehicles and perhaps on foot, with breaks to simply relax on a deckchair by the side of the river, and watch the wildlife go by.

Days 4-5 Kafue National Park, Zambia
Musanza Bushcamp Today your first 4x4 safari will take you north, heading up into the more remote areas of the park. You will be staying on the edge of the Busanga Plains, where the grasslands start and there is a great variety of wildlife. You'll stay for 2 nights on the edge of the Busanga Plains at …
Musanza Bushcamp (full board & activities)
Your activities here will focus on 4x4 game drive safaris but you will occasionally be able to walk as well.

Days 6-7 Kafue National Park, Zambia
Busanga Bush Camp This morning you will head further north through the park, where the woodlands give way to the spectacular open Busanga Plains. These amazing grasslands cover about 750km². They are submerged for almost half the year, but when dry these nutritious grasses attract herds of lechwe and puku, and an abundance of predators including lion and cheetah. You'll stay for 2 nights in the centre of the Busanga Plains at …
Busanga Bush Camp (full board & activities)
This intimate little camp, with just four simple yet very comfortable chalets, is nestled in a tree island on the plains, in a perfect gameviewing area. Your activities here will major on 4x4 safaris on the open plains, including exciting night drives. It's great country for predators; Busanga's tree-climbing lions are often seen hunting, wild dogs are around, and it's Zambia's best area for cheetah!

Day 8 Kafue National Park, Zambia
Lufupa Tented Camp This morning you will depart early for a fascinating game drive across the plains and into the woodlands and back to Lufupa Tented Camp for your last night. Your guide will explain how the ecology of the park changes as you head south, and you should arrive in camp in time for a delicious lunch. In the afternoon, choose either to relax in camp, or take an afternoon game drive or river cruise on Lufupa's large boat. Spend one night

Day 9
