Mfuwe Lagoon, a huge ox-bow lake, has always been one of the Luangwa's most popular areas for game. The lagoon is overlooked by Mfuwe Lodge, which is larger and more luxurious than most other lodges in the valley. Its open dining area, bar and lounge shelter under a vast thatched roof, outside of which is a large wooden deck over the lagoon, a stylish swimming pool and an impressive library.
Accommodation is in one of 18 chalets. Lovely solid furniture stands on the polished wooden floors, and three double doors open onto a veranda overlooking the lagoon. A walk-in mosquito net shrouds the beds, cooled by a fan. The bathroom is largely tiled and includes twin basins and a bath/shower with a view.
It's all very plush; a super spot if you want comfort and pampering, Mfuwe combines best with the Bushcamp Company's bushcamps.
Note that Mfuwe Lodge combines naturally with the bushcamps which are run by the Bushcamp Company: Kuyenda, Chindeni, Chamilandu, Bilimungwe and Kapamba. Or, alternatively, if you want to venture further, then combine it with its more distant sister-camp beside Lake Malawi's shore, Club Makokola.
