Overlooking tumbling rapids at the confluence of the Shire and Mkulumadzi (sometimes written 'Mkurumadzi', or even 'Mukulumadzi') rivers, is Mkulumadzi - owned by Robin Pope Safaris. It's a smart camp in a newly revitalised reserve and is located in 7,000 hectares of private concession. It is built very solidly, to a high specification and incorporates some innovative 'eco' ideas.
Our view of Mkulumadzi Lodge
We really like Mkulumadzi – it’s a stylish camp with spacious, well built chalets. Although it only opened in July 2011, it is already receiving great reviews from our travellers and has raised the bar for safari camps in Malawi. Majete Reserve itself is rugged and, like the antelope species found here, interesting and quite unusual. It will be a new park for most visitors, so ideal for those who want to trail-blaze. It does boast the Big Five, and now that the lion are becoming more habituated and relaxed they are more frequently seen.
