Wolwedans Dune Camp review

The scenery around Wolwedans is spectacular with pale silvery green grasses, dark green acacia trees and the deep orange sand of the Namib desert.

We enjoyed the sundowner drives and a 9:00 a.m. nature drive with our good guide Usko. We would like to have had the option of doing an early morning drive (leaving around sunrise) for more photographic opportunities. The food was excellent.

Our tent (in the Dune Camp) was luxurious but a bit noisy in the wind.

Wolwedans Dune Camp review

Quite simply, the best place to stay in Namibia.

The food really is something special and the staff were excellent.

They promised me to start doing proper hikes up the mountain in front of the camp...when they do - we'll be back immediately.

One of the Best

The Namib Rand Reserve is simply stunning. I was surprised by the amount of wildlife present, in all shapes and forms, ... from chameleons to giraffe. We spent a wonderful day out in the reserve with guide Lister, who patiently shared his considerable knowledge of the local flora and fauna. Lunch was taken at picture-perfect setting in the bush. It was a truly memorable day that surpassed all my expectations.

The only slight negative is the proximity of the tents to each other. The tents themselves are luxurious, each with a fabulously large outside decking area. However, the tents are located in a long line, and you can see your neighbours at all times. Hence when you sit outside, rather than being able to relax in your own private area, you feel as though you are sharing a public space. Ideally I would have preferred a little more privacy, but this was a minor issue.

My experience at Wolwedans ranks as one of the top highlights of my holiday, and my only regret is that I didn't stay for 3 nights!

Wolwedans Dune Camp review

This is the best lodge ever. Everything about it is fantastic.

The luxurious rooms are well spaced out with superb views and you feel totally relaxed. Included activities give a comprehensive experience of what the park has to offer.

The service could not be better, food is prepared within view - just marvellous.

Fantastic location.

Very friendly and helpful staff. The only place to offer a packed lunch on the day of our departure.

More wildlife than you'd expect.

Can't fault it.

Wolwedans Dune Camp review

A fantastic experience from beginning to end. Greeted on arrival by our guide 'Usco' who made us feel very welcome, transferred us to our accomodation and the next morning took us on a memorable days drive followed by sundowners on the dunes - we learnt so much from his local knowledge and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

The accomodation was first class with breathtaking views and attentive, friendly staff.

Exceptional food, made all the more enjoyable by the 'click' menu announcments and communal eating.

First class guide made our visit memorable.

Welome and briefing by Uska our guide. He was friendly, helpful and informative. His personality and sense of humour enhanced our visit.

Accommodation was superb, spacious, luxurious and pristine. Food was generous and first class, beautifully prepared and presented. All day drive with Uska was a pleasure. He explained all aspects of the landscape, flora and fauna...not to mention the fairy circles! we saw giraffes and kudu as well as the more prolific oryx, ostrich, springbok etc. Lunch was delicious and he was an entertaining companion. Uska's sundowner drive was a highlight of our trip for location, ambience and company.

Dining with other guests was most enjoyable. Dining area is warm, welcoming and beautifully presented. Special mention to Andy Smith and his delivery of the menu in Click language with his special brand of humour. An excellent visit all round.

Absolutely brilliant packed lunches for our trip....excellent, different class.

An amazing place in an amazing reserve

Wolwedans Dune Camp exceeded our expectations! It is a serene, very comfortable, stylishly simple and romantic place in the dunes, with beautiful views from the tents and the main area.

The food was very sophisticated and delicious. All the staff were very friendly and competent. Our guide Ben seemed to know everything about everything and taught us plenty about the reserve and its fauna and flora.

The only small suggestion we have concerns the seating arrangements at dinner table. We realise that there might be a point to the staff asking a guest to sit on a particular place, but we feel that the guests should be allowed to sit where they wish at the common table, for example to be able to talk to particular other guests or - more importantly - to avoid having to chat all evening to particular other guests ;) We know it's a delicate matter but please let the guests choose their company at dinner ;-)

The landscapes in the reserve are spectacular and the whole day drive really gives an opportunity to appreciate them. It's definitely a place to visit and revisit! Thank you, Expert Africa, for recommending it :)

Wolwedans Dune Camp review

We were in Tent 1 and looked out on the most amazing landscape.

Our guide was Anton. We recommend the full day drive around the property with a picnic lunch. It's a 'scenery drive' rather than a 'game drive'. The night sky is a revelation.

This was one of the highlights of our trip.
