Guesthouse Indongo review
Good size room and facilities and not too far to walk to the town centre. Limited service from staff - had to ask several times for a local street map and ended up having to just find one at the info office in town. It was very difficult to use the internet - it was offered as available but in reality not very available.
Day trip to Sandwich Harbour - We had an excellent guide and day tour with the local tour company organised - very informative and a great experience. Excellent tour - very pleasant guide with lots of insight and a great variety seen (of fauna and lanscape)!
Good transit stop in Swakop
Since most people's first wish on reaching Swakop is to cleanse themselves of the dust and sand accumulated on their journey, and their next wish is to indulge in various activities to re-cover themselves in dust and sand, good ablutions facilities are critical to your choice of hotel. Guesthouse Indongo scores well on this point, and was generally pleasant - quiet, clean, good family room.
Certain of your previous correspondents have marked it down, in my view, quite harshly, as it is not setting out to compare itself with many of the other Namibian lodges. It's essentially a small town hotel, which we had pretty much to ourselves. The receptionist was friendly and helpful and seemed to do just about everything.
Minor quibble about the food, the breakfast was a bit uninspiring and some of the fruit in the fruit bowl was in less than pristine condition.

Perfectly ok but it was very quiet when we were there and it just felt a bit impersonal

Due to heavy booking in Swapokmund at the time we were there, we ended up in this B&B (other people we met also had similar booking problems).
While the hotel itself looks quite nice, our room was obviously a twin that had been hastily converted to a double and in the process lost all its furniture other than the bed. The single bedside table provided was actually a childs play table (the chairs for which sat forlorn in the dining room) and on the table sat two lamps the telephone and all of the usual publications, plus a phone directory! leaving hardly any room for anything else. There was plenty of room for another bedside table and a chair or two, but none was provided.
The room was provided with a safe, which was broken and a fridge which froze our water in the non-freezer compartment.
The bathroom was tired. The shower dripped constantly and there were no shelves etc. to lay anything down.
Guesthouse Indongo, Swakopmund
Sadly, our luck in the 2-wheel drive car came to an end an hour after leaving Zebra River, when we got stuck in a sandy stream. Two hours later, we were pulled out by the first car to come long - some Germans ina 4x4. We therefore arrived in Swakopmund after 7.30pm (8 hour drive plus 2 hours stuck), having driven way too fast across the desert in the dark! We found the hotel OK, but I think we were the only people staying there, and the receptionist was keen to get back to her flat.
Breakfast was OK on both mornings. I did the Turnstone Tours trip to Sandwich Harbour while Rachel contacted the ground agent and changed the car to a 4x4... This was a very basic business hotel, but we did apparently have the biggest room, which was pleasant and comfortable. The hotel did have a garage (which added security), was about 15 mins walk from the town centre, and staff who did try to help when Rachel needed to make calls about changing the car.
