Rosenhof Country House: Our full report

The Elegant Rosenhof Country House is located on the outskirts of Oudtshoorn, in the Little Karoo. It is well placed for visits to the Cango caves and several ostrich farms in the region. On our visit in November 2011 the rooms were being renovated and refurbished and some of the completed rooms are furnished in an understated style.

Although the entrance to Rosenhof is off a fairly busy main road, it is surprisingly tranquil. There are 14 beautiful en-suite rooms surrounded by a neat rose garden and these are spilt into 12 luxury rooms and 2 suites. The luxury rooms are all spacious and individually decorated and are equipped with air-conditioners, telephones, hair dryers, TV's and tea/coffee facilities. Each has a small terrace overlooking the garden. The bathrooms are all comes with separate baths and showers, heated towel rails and complimentary toiletries.

Set further away from the rest of the rooms the 2 suites have the same amenities as the rooms but comes with private plunge pools, separate bedrooms, a cosy lounge and patios with views towards the Swartberg Mountains.

Inside the main house there is a small bar, several lounges with fireplaces where you can relax and outside in the lovely garden there is a swimming pool and a Wellness centre with a gym, sauna and Jacuzzi. We understand traditional South African food is on offer in the elegant dining room and is complemented by the wine cellar providing a selection of fine wines.

Our view

Rosenhof is a good base to explore Oudtshoorn or visits to the nearby Cango Caves and ostrich farms. It offers high quality accommodation in peaceful surroundings.
