Selous Impala Camp
A friendly well run camp with a very spacious feel to it. Good food. Very good guide and lots of good game.
We especially enjoyed being able to take river trips instead of going out in the vehicle twice a day; lovely birds including bee eaters nesting in the banks.
Fantastic stay at Selous Impala Camp
We absolutely loved our time at Selous Impala Camp. From start to finish, all the staff made sure we had an amazing time and were completely looked after. The activites from the game drives to the boat and walking safaris were brilliant and the guides were very knowlegeable. They also added in lots of special touches that made our stay truely memorable.
The only slight issue we had was with the power in our room which kept on breaking down leaving us with a funny beeping noise in the middle of the night! The staff were keen to try and resolve the issue so hopefully it was just a once off.
Outstanding safari at Impala Camp
What an amazing time we had at the Impala Camp in Selous. Everything was superbly organised, the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. The food was intereseting at times but very tasty.
Our guide Dennis, who we had to ourselves, was very knowledgeable and had the sharpest eyes when it came to spotting some of the animals. We had the opportunity to do boat and walking safaris as well as the drives. It was very flexible. The tents were very comfortable and clean. The Maasi guards were on hand at all times to escort us to and from the main area. The managers Barbara and Andre were very hospitable too.
To wake up in the morning with the wonderful sounds of the hippo just down the bank and the snapping of the crocodiles jaws catching fish as well as the amazing birds was more than we could've imagined.
On our last night we were given a table set up away from the others with our own little fire with our last dinner ending with a song from our personal waiter Mohammad (a lovely genuine guy) along with the other waiters and presented with a delicious Annivesary cake. They were all truely wonderful people, we, as well as all the other guests, were made to feel really welcome. Even Brian the resident giraffe was an amazing sight to see everyday.
I would certainly recommend this camp to everyone. We couldn't have wished for more (except to have stayed longer)
Selous Impala Camp review
Selous Impala is a step up in luxury from Manze and Mdonya. The tents on stilts were fabulous, though you did lose a bit of the direct connection with the bush. The food and service was superb - too much so. But this is a matter of taste rather than a criticism of the camp.
Slightly less choice in activities in that they wanted you to come back for lunch so no all day game drives. Our driver/guide was brilliant and his English was the best of the lot. it seems an awful lot for one man to do (rather than having a guide and spotter) but in terms of results he delivered.

Expert Africa comments
We wonder if there’s been a misunderstanding here? The Impala team are adamant that they are happy to offer full-day game drives to any of our travellers who specifically want them. That said, such drives are long and hot, exhausting some guests, and the middle of the day is usually the least productive time for game-viewing. Hence the camp doesn’t really ‘push’ them, and we would not recommend a full-day drive early in your stay if you fly in straight from Europe or the US to the Selous.

The people were delightful. The camp and its location were amazing.
The safaris were brilliant and being able to safari on the river as well was a real plus.
Selous Impala Camp
The Selous Impala Camp is a fantastic camp, in a great setting on the river. All the staff are extremely helpful and friendly, and we especially liked the fact we had our own safari guide and driver, Hussan and Ali, who were both extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the wildlife in Selous.
After spending 2 days on vehicle safari in Ruaha it was great to experience a river safari on our first afternoon in Selous, and have the chance to see wildlife from the boat. It was also great to have the opportunity to explore the park on foot. The tents are great, and it was nice to cool off in the swimming pool in the afternoon after an early morning safari.
The tables at dinner were set apart so that we had privacy from other guests and the food was lovely and plentiful! During our trip we were lucky enough to see most of the wildlife we had hoped to in Selous apart from the elusive Leopard! Overall Selous Impala offered a little slice of luxury in an amazing setting!
Luxury adventure!
We loved the Selous and Impala Camp was a great base for exploring the wildlife out on safari and watching the wildlife visit us!
We had a hippo visit the camp and regularly had elephants grazing around our lodge. The safaris are fantastic - breakfast overlooking the lake, a boat safari, a fishing trip with the highlight being a walking safari and the fly camp where we lay in bed listening to hippos wandering outside the tent. Charles was very knowlegeable and a charming guide who adapted the itinerary to meet our requirements.
The food (and coffee) was delicious with a real Italian flair - we want to go back.

This was our first experience of safari. The Impala Camp was suggested by Expert Africa and it was a great choice. The combination of game drives and leisurely boat safaris made for a very pleasant introduction to safari. Our teenage daughters were instant converts. We stayed at Impala Camp for three nights and found the staff extremely helpful and accommodating throughout.
Selous is a very beautiful reserve. The game is concentrated and plentiful. While some of the animals (e.g. zebra) are shy compared to Ruaha National Park, we saw more species at Selous including the African Painted Dogs.

Selous is a very nice camp. I really liked my tent. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom and dressing area were very spacious. The tent had a fan which was really nice since it was a bit humid when I first arrived.
Barbara was a very gracious host, and I enjoyed getting to know her and also Mohammed, who was one of the servers.
I don't know if I would recommend Selous for a solo traveler. Each tent has its own table in the dining area, and each tent has its own guide and vehicle. While those amenities are advantageous for couples and families, I did miss the social element of dining in a group and going on game drives in a group.
We have always believed that acting responsibly is the only way to approach tourism and we're one of
the few companies to hold AITO's original coveted 5-star status for responsible tourism. It's a lead
that others are now following.
