Little Kwara review

We enjoyed 3 wonderful days at L Kwara. Everyone was so friendly.

Our guide Vasco and tracker Hobbs were brilliant. We saw all 3 of the large cats, a first for cheetah, which was great.

We enjoyed a mokoro trip, followed by a most enjoyable walk.

We were sad to leave this lovely little camp.

Little Kwara review

Due to its small size, Little Kwara is an extremely friendly camp and is, for us, the most memorable location and the one that we are most likely to return to.

The communal eating, as with the other Kwando camp, was again a great success from our point of view. Staff discovered that one of us had a birthday during our stay and made a special cake and event of the evening meal, which was most memorable.

Our guide Steve and his tracker Kenny were particularly outstanding, for us, due to Steve's skills as a photographer and Kenny's tracking ability.

Overall this was our best camp and we would recommend it to anyone.

Little Kwara review

This was our fourth visit and there will be a fifth and more. We tried to stick to the walking and the water activities as the vehicles (URIs) are absolutely terrible. Very rough ride even taking the terrain into consideration. No cover from the sun or rain. On one walk we picked up three bits that had fallen off a vehicle and on a drive part of a wheel jack that had fallen off another vehicle. They are reluctant to start and don't like going through water.

Excellent management, staff, accommodation and food. Personally we would like a little more flexibility in the dining arrangements. Although enjoyable to chat to everyone over dinner we don't like to be rushed into taking our pre-dinner G&Ts to the table – personal view.

We very much like the ambiance of the oil lamps in the evening and after dinner drinks around the fire.

Sorry Little Kwara but we will be back, but may we fly in our own Land Cruiser?

Elephant encounter at Little Kwara.

I know we asked at short notice if there was a chance of having room 1 well that's what we got - many thanks. I had read about tent 1 on the www and true to form it was probably the best in the camp with fine views over the watering hole with the hippos and the red lechwe that grazed just outside the room.

Our guide and tracker were Steve and Name who eventually found us some cheetahs some 40 km from the lodge! My favourite big cat. We also found two prides of lions on our travels whilst looking for different bird species.

We did have a close encounter with a bull elephant on one evening drive which left our tracker (Name) in a state of shock for a short while - it got within 2 mtrs of him before it stopped, shook all the dust off him and then went on his way!! Steve the guide reckoned he knew it would only be a mock charge.

The boat trip up to Goodikwe Lagoon was very rewarding and appreciated. Again for most of the game drives we had the vehicle to ourselves. Yet again the food was excellent and the staff were just wonderful especially Kiri, Timothy and Lizzie.

Little Kwara review

Lizzie one of the managers was rather weak. The staff generally were alright.

Our guide and tracker were good and informative. We thought there would be much more water activities, although we did go on the river for a drive but were very disappointed in the bird life.

I know you can't always see things but brochure makes Little Kwara sound much better than it actually is.

Expert Africa comments

As usual, we passed this feedback to the team at the camp. For the sake of completeness, they wanted us to note here that, on leaving, these travellers had written in the guestbook:

"GREAT experience. Impressive drives by Hobbs to see the cheetahs - also saw great hippo, lions on a buffalo kill, hyena later and beautiful birds. Everything great. Many thanks from all of us."

Little Kwara review

We were lucky to have Kwando Safaris head guide, Charles, with us for our stay and he was absolutely superb as was our tracker, Name.

The weather was mixed and therefore some drives were not great or had to be curtailed curtailed but they were flexible enough to change plans to take advantage of good weather and give us the opportunity to get out and see what was around. We spent a large part of an extended morning drive trying to track 3 male cheetahs without success and, as we were keen to try and see them, Charles agreed to an extra early start on our last day to try again this time with excellent views for about an hour.

Another example was arranging an extended night drive after rain had curtailed our afternoon drive. Highlights were the boat trip to the heronry (although would recommend an earlier start to this trip to allow more relaxed bird viewing en route), the 3 male cheetahs and 2 male lions with a buffalo kill and interacting with encroaching hyenas. Birdlife was also excellent.

The accomodation and food were not as good as the other camps but still of an acceptable standard. The management and staff were as usual very friendly and helpful.

Little Kwara review

The rooms were excellent.

The highlight of our stay was our guide, Charles. We had some wonderful guides this trip, but Charles was head and shoulders above them. I have have been going to game parks for a long time and have never encountered a guide so superb as Charles. He is proof that the spotters are largely superfluous.

Little Kwara review

Same comments as for Lebala (same owners group - Kwando). Guides work hard to find the sightings and do not worry if you need to stay out long to get to them. Game drives have priority over meal times!

We particularly enjoyed the river trip here. Whilst we have been on many such trips over the years, for this one there was a variety of scenery and environment through which we passed which provided good photographic opportunities and in our opinion it is one of the best we have come across.

There was one thing wrong and I have made the comment to local management and will repeat to their Head Office and that is the need to start this trip probably half an hour earlier. Inevitably some of those participating are slow to arrive in time being rather laid back and treating the whole experience as a bit of a holiday as opposed to serious game driving (in this case cruising). Such delays and any need during the duration of the cruise to stop to take photographs means that, as happened to us, we arrived at the heronry too late to take good photographs - it was almost dark. This was a missed opportunity as the double-deck boat gives an excellent platform to photograph the heronry and there was a lot happening there.

Little Kwara review

Was really sad to leave Lebala camp and our new found friends staff and guests alike but settled really quickly with the help of fab staff here: Kia, Lizzie, Jacob and kenneth. Doi please let them know we had the best holiday of our lives and still talk about them! Great group. Very friendly and exceeded our expectations.

Food lovely and adjusted for my wheat intolerence. Knowledgeable, relaxed, punctual, helpful ( I lost my sun glasses which was a major disaster but the camp staff contacted the head office in maun and 12 h later I have new shades at the very reasonable cost of $30 dollors: amazing!).

Saw loads of animals in both camps: Lions, cheetahs, leopards, hyenas, jackals, hippos, elephasnts, baboons, antelope, wilder beats, buffalo, zebras, giraffes birds, trtees, wild life. Little kwara cam was very cocmfortable, clean and spacious. Oil lamps were reallay pretty especially when all lit when we returned home after our night drive. Also noce to be met by Kia and a glass of Sherry! very personal touch we thought.

All our flights were punctual and the staff were friendly and helpful. Felt safe at all times even in tiny planes in the middle of no where!
