Canyon Village review
This camp was a lovely introduction to our trip.
After the excitment of being met by our Sefofane pilot (Nad) at Windhoek and the flight over the desert and seeing the start of The Fish River we were amazed by how attractive the village looked.
First sundowner and trip to the canyon set the scene for the rest of the trip.
Canyon Village review
We were impressed by Cañon Village. Although we arrived – to our dismay – at the same time as two coach parties, we were immediately spotted as being on our own and looked after as individuals. Gwendolyn made sure we were treated as special!
We were taken to our separate little bungalow ,which was very comfortable (hot water bottles were put in our beds), and were given our own table for meals. My wife has a food allergy and requested a meal with no onions or garlic and this was arranged with no problem. At the end of the meal each night the staff staged a singing /dancing display which everyone enjoyed..
The location of Canyon Village is itself exciting, tucked away amongst the rocks at the foot of the mountains, and we greatly admired the way the 'village' had been laid out . The décor of the main building was most imaginative and the wall paintings were particularly attractive and interesting. The food was very good and all the staff most helpful..
One slight criticism: while we enjoyed seeing the sparrows fluttering around in the dining room, it was a little disconcerting to see them perched directly above the uncovered breakfast cereals and yoghourts
Canyon Village review
The cabins were excellent, the lodge very impressive, and our overall experience was OK.
However the place certainly had an impersonal feel , the staff were not as friendly and personable as they were in other lodges. Considering we had missed a night here, there was no evidence of a caring attitude for us after our experience.
As Canyon Village tends to cater for large groups, the atmosphere in the dining room for two of us was not as relaxing as it could have been and the meals too had a feel of mass catering.
Big Canyon
This is a big camp with 80+ beds but do not be put off, as the rooms are basic clean but very good value. The food is good, albeit buffet (not my favourite) and the staff are very helpful. The location makes it great for the Canyon both north and south.
It is a travellers pass through point, with large groups staying just one night, but a good stop off for a couple of nights.
Canon Village review
High turnover lodge, well run.
Convenient for the Fish River canyon.
Canon Village review
I really liked this place. The location was lovely and the pool area was probably my favourite of all the places I stayed - what a fantastic view from a pool !!. Initially I was a bit upset that we could not get into the Canon Lodge and ended up here but was very happy with everything at the village.
The food was excellent and I liked the buffet style. Service was also excellent and the sundowner walk was a very nice little extra.
A rocky residence
Unusual settings although quite a long walk to the furthest bungalows. Worth the walk with outstanding views and peace and quiet.
Main building facilities good. The nature drive/farm visit was very interesting and worthwhile. We drove ourselves to Fish River Canyon - spectacular.
Lovely location
Evening sundowner walk up the kopje was good, especially the free drinks.
Ideal for visiting Fish River canyon, obviously.
