Zebra Kalahari Lodge: Our full report
Zebra Kalahari Lodge is located in the Intu Afrika Kalahari Private Game Reserve in the south-west Kalahari, which is also home to Camelthorn Kalahari Lodge and Suricate Kalahari Tented Camp.
There are 13 rooms at Zebra Kalahari Lodge, consisting of eight luxury rooms and five dune suites. The luxury rooms are located just next to the main area, and are very spacious inside, which does make them feel a little sparsely furnished, as they contain just a bed, wardrobe, tables and chairs. The style is comfortable and modern furniture in browns and reds, so the rooms feel bright. Outside, through double glass doors, is a patio with table and chairs for sunset viewing or soaking up the scenery.
The dune suites are situated further from the main area, surrounded by orange sands and with a more uninterrupted view. The suites are split level, with a comfortable lounge area on the lower level, complete with black leather sofas and armchairs, and the four poster bed on the higher level. Although larger than the luxury rooms, these rooms feel less spacious as they have more furniture in them, and they too are decorated in browns and reds.
All the rooms have air conditioning, minibars and hairdryers as well as en-suite bathrooms with either a bath or a shower (or both in the honeymoon suite) and a flush toilet. Brightly coloured towels and shampoos and soaps are provided.
The main area of the lodge looks out across the red dunes of the Kalahari. There's a large open plan lounge and dining room with a fireplace and more leather sofas. This area leads to an outside seating area which also looks over the pool, surrounded by sunloungers. The pool is built in an L shape, with a deeper, larger part and a smaller much shallower splash pool. Further back towards the reception is a small grassy garden with a pond and shaded seating areas.
Activities on offer at Zebra Kalahari Lodge include afternoon game drives where you may spot ostrich or springboks, quad biking, and sundowner drives. They also offer a few spa treatments such as massages.
