Erongo Wilderness Lodge review

We enjoyed our last night at Erongo before returning to Windhoek.

The food was excellent with a good choice available. Of all the lodges visited, they were the most relaxed about meal times.
We had a very good walk the following morning with a knowledgable guide.

We wondered what the bathroom facilities would be like in inclement weather as the loo paper was apt to blow away!

Amazing location

Lovely relaxing place.

Should have stayed 2 nights, rather than just the 1.

Erongo Wilderness Lodge review

The hiking here was brilliant, it's a fairy tale location.

The free guided walking tours were fantastic and made a real difference to our stay. These were tailored to what we wanted to see and the guide was an expert in so many things it made all the difference.

Amazing sunsets and spectacular views, made up for the rain.

Staff lovely and helpful. It was a great place to finish this amazing holiday.

A shame that when it rains receptions gets flooded so no internet or phone :)

A wonderful place for walks, birds + scenery

We really enjoyed staying at this lodge.

Our chalet had a wonderful view over the rocky plain, and the outside bathroom had a canopy which meant we were as close as possible to nature but with shelter from the rain (which fell on both our evenings there). The relief managers on duty - Voibos and his wife, could not have been more helpful, and we enjoyed two fantastic walks with our guide Hal.

One the first walk, he very carefully guided us to the top of a very high kopjie for wonderful views of the area, and on the second, he managed to find us a klipspringer and 2 elephant shrews, plus innumerable bird species that we hadn't seen elsewhere. His knowledge of the local flora and fauna was excellent.

Lovely finale to our holiday at Erongo

As with many of our other stops, Erongo Wilderness Lodge has been tastefully designed to blend in with an amazing landscape. The rooms are light, spacious and being tent based let a good amount of fresh air in if so desired. Bathroom once again was outside - excellent supply of hot water and the only audience are the abundant Dassies! Terraces are extensive and private with great views of the surrounding scenery. We had room 10, which despite being the furthest from the dining area had amazing views and a double bed (a rare find in Namibia where the 'Austrian Twin' seems to be the norm).

Food was excellent with a choice of two main dishes each evening, with dietary requirements thoughtfully met and a good choice of wine. Weather permitting, dinner is served outside around a braai, overlooking a small floodlit waterhole.

After our time in Etosha where we were largely vehicle based, it was great to be able to get out and explore on foot. We started with a short sharp Kopje climb for sundowners on our first evening and followed up with a longer climb of a larger Kopje before breakfast the next day - as ever the guides were friendly and knowledgable. We took the nature drive that afternoon but sadly were unable to do the walk up to the rock paintings owing to heavy rain making the rocks too slippery - a shame but one of the risks of visiting in the rainy season.

Breakfasts were the best of any of the camps - thoroughly enjoyed the pancakes. It was my wife's birthday during our stay and we were treated to sparkling wine and a home backed chocolate accompanied by a rousing rendition of Happy Birthday from the staff. A wonderful end to an amazing trip.

The Baboons at Erongo Wilderness

Amazing place, park at the bottom and then transfer to the camp in a 4X4.

Warm welcome by the staff and then shown to our very luxurious tent on a wooden platform with tremendous views to the massive rock formations populated by baboons.

Lots of dassies and various lizards of varying colours.

Food again was excellent both in the evening and breakfast.

An amazing night, the baboons were screaming and seemed as though the were at the side of the tent, however the night guards were there making sure that none breached the camp perimeter.

A good lodge amongst huge boulders

A good and interesting lodge built amongst the boulders.

We were warned on arriving that ours was the only tent which had not been renovated but it was fine for one night. We had a lovely view from the outside seating area. Our visit to the cave paintings was good and our early morning guided walk was good too.

Even Better Than When We Stayed Here Before

The tents here have been renewed and although we were very happy here on our last visit, the new ones are really beautiful. Ours had lovely views. Food was just as good as before and so was the sun downer drive. The guide, Coulisse, was a mine of information.

The young couple managing Erongo had only been there a few weeks but were very helpful and did everything they could to make our stay enjoyable.

Erongo Wilderness Lodge review

This was the favourite place for both of us,they really get it just right, the new tents are lovely, whilst keeping the original locations.the Managers were very helpful,no problem keeping the room till 3pm on the day we left.

the guides have all been there for ages and know the terrain, flora and fauna inside out. the new open air dining area is a great addition.the food an wine well chosen and nicely served.

A really great place which managed to be get the right mixture of chic and relaxed.
every visit we wishwe had booked to stay longer.
