Last stay at Skeleton Coast Camp
It is such a shame that this camp is now closed. With tourism so important to Namibia maybe the tourist board should stop to think about the implications of granting only short-term licences to companies who have to set up well-run and well-appointed camps miles from anywhere. It seems an appalling waste of physical and human resources.
Our guide was outstanding, all the camp staff outgoing and friendly and we had wonderful trips into this special area, appreciating the beauty and vastness and changeability. Everyone was sad that it was ending, but they gave us a great party to see it go out in style.

This camp was certainly a highlight of the trip.
Every detail was professional. Guides were exceptional.

A real highlight!! Special place with splendid staff and we were lucky to be with a great crowd of fellow guests! We will remember this experience for a long time.
Tents knackered! We understand delays but...
Skeleton Coast Camp review
We thoroughly enjoyed our trip to the Skeleton Coast. However, whilst the staff did their utmost to make up for the fact that the Main Camp had just been burnt down, there is no disputing that the Fly Camp was not able to provide the level of comfort we had been looking forward to and had paid for!
There should in my view have been an immediate offer of some compensation. We are still waiting!

A very special experience - the highlight of our holiday. The desolate but beautiful area containing an astonishing range of fascinating aspects - geology, flora and fauna.
Although there had been a devastating fire destroying all the old communal area the staff team ensured that our visit and experience were in no way impaired.
Although the days were long the driving was broken by many points of great interest and opportunities to walk around and take in the atmosphere and many photos.
Skeleton Coast Camp review
Stunning landscape and interesting all day nature drives including a visit to a seal colony and a Himba village - but the experience does not come cheap. Unfortunately, the kitchen and dining room of the main camp had burnt down three days prior to our arrival, and on the flight we were joking we might only be served smoked fish as a meal. No, it was not as bad, and - given the circumstances - the staff managed reasonably well to make the best out of it.

the arrival by plane is incredibly unforgeable and moving. the isolation is truly mysterious and a bit scary
the first day drive last 11 hours... a drive forever... it is very exhausting .one looses a little bit the pleasure...l oved it though and next day was less stressful. they should find another way to show you the sights which i guess is pretty impossible at those distances... any drive longer than six hours is too much.
the very charming manager treats you a bit like in boot camp... i asked for eggs and bacon in the morning and would not get them. only the last day... i was told....... this should not happen at those prices... inspite of the hardship of the 11 hours first day drive it is a day one will never forget and the guide/driver tries very hard to make it as leisurely as possible.amazing sights and views.
we even saw an elephant the next day and visiting the himba people was truly interesting. again wonderful guide and one can easily forget not having gotten one`s eggs and bacon in the morning.
the beds as in most lodges [except etendeka] were amazingly comfortable and as one is soooo tired one needs those delicious duvets and very firm beds
Excellent Safari on Skeleton Coast Camp
I have nothing but the highest regard for the management and staff who ensured our complete comfort for the duration of our stay. We received a very warm welcome on arrival by Morne, Sue ,Bariar and other members of staff and were made to feel at home immediately. Our guides were informative, patient in answering our many questions about the environment and solicitous about our needs. We were able to stop and photograph points of interest along the way and each day provided different oppurtunities. There was much food for thought in all that I saw and experienced and the days passed all too quickly.Evening meals were a special delight- the cook is a marvel- and a final touch of hotwater bottles in bed was especially appreciated when the fog rolled in bringing in the damp. I would like to have the experience all over again and for longer and I left regretfully. A profound experience!
