Urikaruus - an alternative to South Aoab
We stayed just one night at Urikaruus which served us to explore the south part of the Aoab river bed. This part of the river bed (from Kamqua to Houmoed) is extremely arid which means that the populations of water dependent antelopes and thus, carnivores, are sparse. Nevertheless we were privileged to watch two different troops of Meerkats, both on different days and at early morning hours.
The camp itself is very well located, with cabins overlooking a waterhole on the Aoab riverbed. Yellow mongoose was seen actively hunting.
The guard was helpful and attentive. The rooms were comfortable and clean, the kitchen very well equipped, and both with a nice balcony to the waterhole.
