Senuko Safari Lodge: Our full report
***Senuko Safari lodge is currently being re-built following a fire in the main area and kitchen. We expect it to be back up and running in the not too distant future. For further information please give us a call***
Senuko Safari Lodge is located on the top of a granite kopje overlooking a water pan in the Save Valley Conservancy in Zimbabwe's Southeastern Lowveld, 70km from Chiredzi. The conservancy is home to the Big Five and around 400 bird species.
Senuko, which means 'the place where animals drink' in Shangaan, has its own private reserve, the Senuko Reserve, with an area of 250km², which is exclusively for guests staying at the lodge.
Senuko Safari Lodge is made up of eight twin-bedded chalets with open fronts and roll-down screens, allowing you to look out over the countryside. Each room contains two four-poster beds and has an en-suite bathroom with a bath and a shower. The rooms all have a minibar, an overhead fan, a desk, a dressing room, a mosquito net and a hairdryer. The lodge is built out of local materials, allowing it to blend seamlessly into its surroundings.
The communal area of Senuko Safari Lodge consists of a small swimming pool with a sundeck and a patio where you can relax in the evening with a drink before dinner while you look out over the waterhole. There is a lounge and a library that has videos, as well as a small curio shop. There is a central dining room and a bar with panoramic views over the local area.
Activities offered from Senuko Safari Lodge include walking safaris with fully licensed professional guides, game drives, bird watching and cultural village tours. The lodge offers black rhino tracking on foot. After dark you can go on a game drive lit by spotlight, and the lodge has waterholes and hides that allow you to get a closer view of the game.
