Victoria Falls

 - Zimbabwe

'Scenes so lovely must have been gazed upon by Angels in their flight'

was the often-quoted note that David Livingstone made when he first saw this spectacular waterfall. Now, just across the river from the Zambian town of Livingstone, lies the small Zimbabwean town of Victoria Falls.

This is a major crossroads for travellers, besides marvelling at the Falls. A sightseeing flight over the Falls, called 'The Flight of Angels', is enchanting, whilst those in search of further excitement can bungee-jump over the Zambezi, canoe amongst hippos and crocodiles, or raft down one of the world's toughest stretches of white water.

There are still many places to stay in Victoria Falls. Our favourite has always been Ilala Lodge: a small friendly, privately-owned hotel with the best location in town. It's five minutes' walk from either the Falls themselves, or Victoria Falls town. Ilala Lodge has 32 rooms, all with en suite toilet and shower, a pool, a restaurant, a comfortable lounge and a very pleasant atmosphere. Its service and food are attentive, and it's good value.

Alternatively, many of our visitors to this area know that it's just as easy to see the sights when staying on the other side of the river, in Livingstone (in Zambia). We currently recommend that you use that as your base to see the Falls area.
