Lufupa Bush Camp is the newest camp to join Wilderness Safaris' ever growing number of properties in Zambia's Kafue National Park. Situated in the north of the 22,500km2 Kafue National Park, this camp was originally part of the old Busanga Trails family, and was known as Kafwala Rapids Camp. It has now been fully refurbished and now forms part of our Puku Safari trips.
Built along the banks of the broad Kafue River, and right on the Kafwala Rapids, an area of river known for its white water and birdlife, Lufupa Bush Camp has four en-suite chalets constructed from brick and thatch.
The chalets and the simple bar/dining and sitting area are nestled in the shade of huge old ebony and mangosteen trees and each chalet has a view of the rushing water of the rapids. Hammocks down by the edge of the river add to the relaxing feel of this little camp.
The chalets all have en-suite facilities and hot and cold running water – the water is heated by wood-fired stoves and is always available. Lufupa Bush Camp is lit with old-fashioned paraffin lamps and the meals are cooked outside over an open fire, often in front of the guests. Occasionally meals are served outside under the stars by the edge of the river.
There is a good amount of wildlife in the area and a variety of different environments are within easy reach to explore. Nearer camp there is lush riverine vegetation which spreads upwards into mixed miombo woodlands where a variety of antelope, including the shy bushbuck, can be found. Also found in the area are elephant, buffalo, zebra, warthog, puku and possibly sable and roan antelope.
Lufupa Bush Camp offers a variety of activities which include fishing, boating trips, nature walks, excellent birding, game drives and night drives for nocturnal species.
Note that Lufupa Bush camp should not be confused with Lufupa River Camp and Lufupa Tented Camp– both of which are much further north, in the middle of northern Kafue.
