Wonderful spot... again, wish I/we could have stayed a few days to lower the blood pressure a bit.
Food at Sossusvlei "sister" lodge was excellent for dinner and breakfast. We didn't self-cater, but amenities to do so were excellent. Nice touch with a pool in the middle of the desert.
Desert Camp review
Excellent location. Cold at nights but warm extra blankets available. Wear a warm hat and you sleep well!
Most professional staff. Easy to order excellent food from Sossusvlei Lodge and get it delivered at the tent at 17:30-18:00. The meat was fresh and very tasty, but bring a good knife to cut some of the logs of wood in smaller pieces if you barbecue on your own.
Very good breakfast at Sossusvlei Lodge.
Perfect self-catering camp
We loved Desert Camp. While we also enjoy full service lodges, it was a fun experience to grill our own food, and the outdoor kitchen was very cool. The cooking equipment they provide is really fantastic, -- stainless steel cooking and dinner ware that we really wish we could find here! The "rooms" are all tented camps, which were very comfortable and had a nice rustic feel.
Desert Camp is very close to the entrance of Sossusvlei park, and it's easy to access the gas station for supplies and much needed ice cream. It's also very close to Sossusvlei Lodge where we had wonderful breakfasts near their beautiful watering hold (you can also go there for dinner if you don't feel like cooking). The pool and bar at Desert Camp were the perfect place to hang out after a hot day in the dunes, where the friendly staffed served us beers and cocktails.
This is the perfect place for a more self-catering and rustic experience. We loved our stay here.
Great views at Desert Camp
Perhaps it was because it was our first lodge, but we thought Desert Camp was just wonderful.
In a stunningly beautiful location, just 5km from the Sossusvlei park gates, this was wonderfully peaceful and relaxing.
Excellent food was on offer at the linked Sossusvlei Lodge, but we chose to barbecue both night with the very good ingredients that could be ordered from reception.
The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The accommodation was comfortable and well equipped. And they had draught lager at the bar
All in all a fantastic start to our Namibia trip.
Sophisticated Self Catering
The freedom and facilities offered by Desert Camp were just as we had hoped with a well designed outdoor kitchen and eating area and pleasant bedroom and bathroom.
It made for a fun stay with a sense of independence but with the availability of pool/bar facilities and delivered pre packed meals if you wanted them plus a laundry service. Some friendly staff too.
Desert Camp
Desert Camp is in a great location. When we stayed there it was windy at night and it was very loud in the tent.
I'd say if you are a light sleeper you might want to consider a different place to sleep.
