Cornerstone Guesthouse review

We enjoyed our quick stay here. We were alittle confused upon arrival because from the direction we arrived the car park entrance was the first entrance we saw. You have to have "clicker" to get in...so we had no idea why the gate was not opening for us...but the security guard saw us and showed us how to round the corner and come in a different place. There ended up not being enough room for our car in the car park but we felt safe with the security guard.

We arrived just before sunset and it was clear that we were keeping the front desk person there....so don't be late. Everyone here was very nice. The night check in person wanted to help us with restaurant recommendations. We should have taken her up on this. Where we ate on our own devices was sub par.

The room was very nice. We figured out the white square on the wall was a heater. No blow dryer available here. The garden was particularly beautiful. I took mental notes of things to do in my own garden. Breakfast was really good and the gentleman who was working was delightful.

I recommend this place without reservation...as long as you know where to pull in!

Cornerstone Guesthouse review

The guesthouse was much more upmarket than we were expecting. The rooms were large, well appointed, clean and very comfortable.

The gardens were neat colourful and well kept. Breakfast was very good. Peter was particularly helpful and went out of his way to assist when I struggled to obtain cash from the local ATM. Restaurants are all within 5 minutes walk.

While in Swakop my daughters all went skydiving with Ground Rush Adventures. They were excellent. We would also strongly recommend the lay down sand boarding company Expert Africa use. It was great fun and much more exhilarating than expected. We achieved 64kph!

Relaxing break .

Lovely place to stay being a really short walk to the beach area and the centre of town.

Margot and Peter and all the staff were very friendly and helpful, especially in recommending and booking restaurants for dinner.

We had lovely meals at 21degrees South, Kucki's Pub and the lovely Erichs which were all very different and reasonably priced.

Lovely breakfast!

Cornerstone Guesthouse review

We weren't sure that we wanted to visit Swakopmund at all, having experienced British seaside resorts in winter. As we drove towards the coast and a wall of fog, we thought that our worst fears would be confirmed. In spite of this, and a nearly 30ºC drop in temperature, we are glad that we were persuaded to go (and that we had packed down jackets).

We divided the day between a boat-trip, which provided (very) close encounters with seals, pelicans, a rare whale and other wildlife, and a drive round the coast photographing flamingoes.

The Cornerstone provided an good base from which to explore the area. The staff were pleasant and helpful, booking trips and restaurants for us.

Great choice for Swakopmund

Good location within easy (walking) distance of all town facilities. Bedrooms had heaters, essential in July - other lodges should learn from this !

Charming host/hostess, and v. helpful when we had a medical problem. Although it's a tough journey to get there from Sesriem (C14), we think Swakopmund is the best town in Namibia.

Cornerstone Guesthouse review

We stayed in room 3 for two nights. The staff were very welcoming and the room was small but had everything we needed but a slightly acrid smell of air freshener in the bathroom. The fridge was noisy overnight.

It was in a good location for walking into town in the evening.
Breakfast was good. There was a useful laundry service and a good size safe. There was a friendly cat.

Rather randomly, we were given a mobile phone for emergencies overnight (I think none of the staff stay on site).

Cornerstone Guesthouse Review

The accommodations at Cornerstone are simple and clean; it's not luxurious, but certainly a lovely base for exploring the region. The owners were kind and attentive, making us dinner reservations and confirming our excursions. We were pleased with our stay overall.

On suggestion: We ate at a local pub at the owner's recommendation. While the food was good, the restaurant was smoke-filled, which irritate one of our allergies. As many foreigners come from places where indoor smoking has been banned, it might be worth mentioning when an establishment still permits this practice.

Whilst in Swakopmund these guests took a day excursion to the coast south of Swakopmund. This is what they said about it:

Our Sandwich Harbour excursion with Turnstone Tours was one of the highlights of our trip. What an incredible experience! We enjoyed the undivided attention of owner Bruno and his wonderful son Kai (who was along to learn the family business). The scenery was spectacular (massive dunes, stunning coastline), but what really made the trip was talking to and learning from these two. Even changing a flat tire became a fund adventure. We would highly recommend this excursion to others.

They also opted for a kayaking excursion on Walvis Bay Lagoon upon which they commented:

We enjoyed a fun morning excursion kayaking in Walvis Bay Lagoon. Because we had to hit the road early, we were not able to venture out to see the Pelican Point seals, but it was pleasant to be amongst the greater and lesser flamingos and Jeanne's infectious enthusiasm. That she took pictures of us on the water (and promptly emailed them to us) was an added bonus!
