Southern Sun (formerly the Holiday Inn) review
Considering it was just a "stop over", the Southern Sun was very welcoming.
Perhaps Mondays are not a good day in Dar as some things were off the menu, but enough alternatives not to be too disappointed. The traffic (makes the UK look good!) meant that the transfer was an hour from the airport, but only 10 mins or so early morning for the BA flight.
Would use the hotel again without hesitation. Friendly staff and comfortable hotel.

The room was very small and smelled dank. The bathroom was however clean and well equipped. Supper on the outside terrace was OK, not a great option.
Breakfast next morning was good, with fresh eggs available.
We only stayed here because there was a possibility we might have been unable to get a visa before arriving in Tanzania. In the event we had already got the visas. The short drive from the airport to hotel took more than an hour in dreadful traffic. When we arrived we asked when we should be collected to return to the airport the next (Saturday) morning. We were told by the driver we neede to allow 2 hours to drive there. This was repeated by the hotel. In fact it took us 20 minutes. Had they not realised it was a weekend? So we arrived ludicrously early for our short flight.
Having spoken to other travellers who had to get visas at Dar airport it does not seem to be a particularly long process, and another time I would prefer to risk that than spend a night in such accomodation.

Lastly, the hotel for our final nights stay was first class and very much appreciated by all the party.
Excellent. Just what we needed.

An excellent business hotel, ideal for an overnight stop before an early flight.
Comfortable, well appointed room, excellent breakfast. Evening meal was first class and very reasonable, as was the wine.

Fine for one night. Very busy in bar & restaurant, with lots of locals presumably due to keen pricing.

Rather difficult to comment on all the facilities as I was just staying the night.
However the room, breakfast, & service were excellent.

Breakfast was available from 4.30 am despite information in room saying it was later.
