Doro Nawas review
A fantatic drive to get to Dora ! Nawas, we visited Burnt mountain, the organ pipes and Twyfelfontein on the way all worth a visit.
Our rooms were fantasic with balcones at the front looking out towards mountains and also steps upto a roof top balcony.
The main part of the lodge looks like a fortress and of an evening you can go to the roof top and look at the stars, you can also wheel your bed out onto the balcony of your room, we did do this and the stars were amazing, I must admit though we did not last longer than 30mins or so as there were still mosquito's and lots of other creepy crawlies trying to join us, the experience is a must though.
We went on an eve excursion to track Elephants and although we did not see them, there were lots of tracks and the whole experience was fantastic, we even had to get out and push the jeep as we got stuck in sand, it was just so exciting, great fun.

See previous comments. I would add that the guiding was good, but not of the very high standard experienced at e.g. Okonjima or Hobatere.

The regular manager went on leave the day we arrived. We were disappointed by the level of attention to detail of the management. Cleanliness of the bungalows left something to be desired. Staff were friendly but not as well trained as at e.g Okonjima. The atmosphere was a little too laid back and the food was disappointing.

fabulous new facility
sites to see nearby were less exciting that the phenomenal ones we experienced near Sossuslvei, Swapkopmund, and Ongave Lodge
Seeing desert elephants at Doro Nawas
Most amazing location. The rooms are vast and extremely well appointed with the possibility of wheeling the enormous bed on to the huge private verandah to sleep under the stars (we didn't as there was slight rain the nights we stayed.
Graham was ill and could not leave the room and the staff were most solicitous and concerned. He said it was the best room to recover in. I went on an early morning desert elephant search alone with an excellent guide, Lister. He was great company and very patient and after a few hours we came upon two groups of elephants who had come together. It was fabulous being so close to these majestic creatures who totally ignored us and we spent a magical hour and a half just observing them.

We arrived on a stiflingly hot afternoon to be greeted by cold towels and Fiona's beaming smile - don't think she stopped smiling all the time we were there! All the staff were friendly and gave the impression they were delighted to see us. Joe (the manager) spent much bar-leaning time discussing the pros and cons of driving the Skeleton Coast road with us and very kindly offered to have our repaired tyre re-checked for us.
Lester, our guide, took us on an excellent trip to see the elephants - Oscar got a little too close for comfort, attempting to stick his head in the vehicle! We even got to see meerkats!
Our room (no 9) was large, bright and airy - even so we wheeled the bed out onto the balcony on our second night - amazing experience to wake at 3am and see the Milky Way overhead - it was by far the coollest (in both senses of the word) place to sleep and we'll remember it for a long time.
Food was plentiful and wholesome though service of cooked breakfasts was slow, delaying some people on their morning activity.
Activitied are rated as 'good' rather than 'excellent' as we thought some were overpriced.
We would return without hesitation
Favourite destination.
Standards generally very high.
Excursion costs exhorbitant.
Open air sleeping a delight.
We loved Doro Nawas
Beautiful and very spacious accommodation. We were impressed by the way the this had been constructed so as to blend in with the landscape.
Very friendly staff, good service. We had a very good guide, Lister, who managed to find the desert elephants.
One of the highlights of our trip.
Another amazing place
This is another amazing place. The rooms have to be seen to be believed with enough space to accommodate a family of six! That is not including the huge balcony.
Guests are invited to roll the bed out on to the balcony and, 'sleep under the stars'. We thought we would give it a try - at 12.30 it started raining resulting in a frantic dash to get the bed back in! Do not try this in the wet season.
The trip to look for the desert elephants was a great success - we saw two seperate groups although seeing any is never guaranteed.
Our first dinner was not up to the standards we had become used to but the second was described in our diary as "good".
Once again, the staff were wonderful.
The Desert adapted elephants
Excellent location and conveniently close to the Twyfelfontein area ( paintings, petrified forest, burnt mountain and organ pipes) for those that are self-driving.
The morning game drive was efficient and enjoyable. The Desert adapted elephants were the purpose of the drive.
