The staff here could not do enough for us. The camp has its own entrance to Sossusvlei which saves a lot of time, and the guides are friendly and knowledgeable.
Climbing a dune and plunging down the steep side into Dead Vlei was great fun, as was the hot air balloon ride we took from here.
Never seen so many stars at night...
This was our first visit to the desert. We enjoyed it but probably wouldn't go again...the views were great and it was very peaceful, but our main interests are animal/bird watching. We were fortunate to have a guide (Cristoff) to ourselves and he was extremely knowledgeable and kind.
NB: Just for info... don't know if you've visited the Lodge recently but when we were there they were finishing off some new rooms to be used from end of September 2010. They face away from the really good views.... if we'd ended up with one of them we'd have been disappointed.
A bit of luxury in the desert
This is a special place in the desert. When we arrived after a long drive down the track to the lodge, we were greeted with glasses of ginger cordial and a big welcome from staff. The lodge has stunning views over the desert with it's own small waterhole below the lodge.
The room was comfortable and elegant and the bathroom had great complementary toiletries. They are very eco friendly and there is a bucket in the shower to collect the water as it's heating up which the maid then takes away to be reused. There is a good selection of trips from the lodge which are pricey, but worth doing, particularly the trip to Sossusvlei via their private entrance. Again you are greeted with a drink when you get back.
The lodge is run very smoothly and professionally and is quite expensive but definitely worth it.
amazing location and the views from the tents were wonderful (though rather cold on the first night) Service friendly. Food rather erratic. Some meals were good, others not so good.
Lovely layout - verandah pool etc
Open fire a good idea but still rather cold in the building on the first evening
Lodge okay... Balloon ride not to be missed
Rooms were smallish and very close together. Was aware of other guests. There was construction (expansion) going on and the noise detracted from the setting.
Staff was pleasant and friendly. Trip to the nearby canyon was a disappointment. The dunes Soussevlei were awesome.
The guide, Peitrus was very accomodating and friendly/knowledgable.
The balloon ride (outside vendor) and breakfast in the desert was one of the highlights of the entire trip. The balloonist (Dennis) was very friendly and entertaining.
Kulala Desert Lodge review
Excellent, friendly welcome with chilled drinks and towels after lengthy drive. Superb location, excellent sunset and stars.
Food and service efficient, friendly and first class. Welcome drinks and snacks for our companions' anniversary very well received. Toiletries excellent! Bed rolls on roof to sleep under stars magical experience, comfortable and warm. Very accommodating with early wake up and breakfast before our trip to Sossosvlei. Lovely place to stay.
Some difficulty paying with card and time taken making up bill delayed early departure.

Warm and friendly greeting on arrival.
Very comfortable rooms with the option of sleeping on the roof under the stars - an experience we thoroughly enjoyed. Very good food and service. Fantastic view from lodge looking over to the dunes.
We requested a very early breakfast which was no problem at all for the staff.

Kulala in touch with nature
On arrival we were met by the staff with drinks and a very warm welcome. Our introduction to the camp was clear and informative. We were able to sort out our activities straight away without any fuss.
The cabins were fantastic with stunning views. The temperature was very hot and the fans and the canvas flaps allowed us to keep cool. All rooms all had body and room mosquito spray, even though we didn't need it.
Although initially a bit horror stuck to discover that our veggies did not eat chicken or fish, the chef came out to the table to discuss meal options, which when delivered were of the highest standard. Once again the food was of an exceptional standard as was the quality of service.
The staff were lovely and interested in us, the after dinner singing was superb. Our guide Wilhem was outstanding and very patient with everybody. Another outstanding experience.

Arrived late after an arduous drive from Windhoek. A delayed start trying to sort out lost luggage (Thanks SAA!) meant the last two hours were in the dark.
The setting is fantastic. The rooms were very comfortable and the welcome was warm and friendly. I cannot fault their care. Specifically we were advised to crack on with our planned activities (balloon flight and trip to Sossusvlei) as the weather was closing in. Thank Heavesn we did as everything was cancelled th next day. The balloon flight is a must. We have ballooned across the Serengeti and frankly this was better. The pilots were superb and amazingly skilled. A top ten lifetime experience.
The DeadVlei was amazing. A bit like an early Star Trek set or an artists installation. Also, the dunes were heaving with life. Beetles, lizards, butterflies etc.
To be honest, I was not looking forward to this part of the trip much but I was astonished. It was a magical place to visit.
