Zebra River Lodge review

Of all the lodges we stayed at, this was a particular favourite. Stunning landscapes with more than enough walking opportunities.

We did the Canyon walk which afforded fantastic views of the area, and can be completed by any moderately fit person in around 5 hours. Great home cooked food shared with the other guests in the lodge. Staff knowledgeable and friendly.

Zebra River Lodge - very friendly

Rob and Marianna, and the staff at Zebra River Lodge were very friendly and helpful. They very kindly moved us to another room, because of a mouse in our original room! Special thanks to Jana.

We enjoyed the food, particularly the family atmosphere sitting around dining tables, the setting and the walk up to the Quiver tree.

The lodge is a little bit off the beaten track (if there is such a thing in Namibia), but it was a very nice place to spend our first 2 nights in Namibia.

Zebra River Lodge review

Zebra river is a very friendly lodge with everyone eating breakfast and evening meals together. Rob was very knowledgeable about the local area ( and Namibia).

We spent a good day walking in the Tsaris mountains.

Wonderful first stop, superb cooking

Arrived very late due to delayed flight which meant that we had had to drive in the dark. It is perhaps a little too far for a first stop from Windhoek if you have never been to Namibia before and driven on the dirt roads!

We had a smashing welcome and it was lovely to all sit around the dinner table sharing experiences with fellow travellers. Rob and Marianne both have plenty of knowledge about the area. Rob particularly went to a great deal of trouble to explain an onward route for us and this resulted in another highlight of our holiday. Rob is hoping to gain a commercial pilots licence soon so with an air strip there will be an extra dimension to this location.

Unfortunately at the time of our visit they were struggling to combat a domouse infestation in a couple of the rooms which whilst understandable in this sort of area did result in a fairly disturbed sleep.

The Canyon and quiver tree walk is well worth the effort but allow a little more time if you find the heat tiring, packed lunch superb.

Staying at Zebra River is like staying with your best friends. You can do as much or as little as you like, with Rob, Marianne and the staff on hand to help.

Great walks (Quiver tree, easy 3hr walk), Great views, Great home cooking and Rob's sun downer is a must.

Zebra River Lodge review

A very relaxing place with a warm welcome and very helpful, friendly staff. There was a convivial atmosphere in the dining room - lots of conversation and good food and wine.

We seemed to have a more baisc room than others and were offered a change the second day but didn't take it as we were just about to go on a walk.

Lots of opportunities for walks with good maps and explanations. An ideal end to a busy holiday.

Zebra River Lodge review

Another unexpected delight! We had hoped to end with the Etosha/Ongava as a highlight but this was just perfect!

Rob, Marianne and their colleagues/friends were warmly welcoming and, once again we enjoyed meeting their dogs! The rooms were comfortable and the more plentiful water supply let us enjoy both their charming garden and ... a lovely bath!

The scenery was stunning and our hosts were at pains to ensure that we not only enjoyed our walks but were also properly kitted out. Rob clearly collects rocks which provided a fascinating backdrop and talking point. Once again we enjoyed eating delicious food around a communal table.

A beautiful place to unwind

From our initial greeting with Gail & Jana we were assured of a relaxed stay. It was nice to be in this beautiful location for two nights, it gave us time to unwind and get into the Namibian pace of life.

We enjoyed eating with the other guests and hosts, a real eclectic mix making for a pleasant evening of conversation. Marianne & Rob were very helpful giving us ideas of where to visit and routes for our onward journey.

All the staff were happy and nothing was too much trouble for them, I hope to return someday.

Gem of a lodge in wonderful terrain, a must!

I arrived, unsually, very, very early am but was made to feel very welcome - tea and melt in your mouth muffin!

Marianne and Rob were very warm hosts - the quality of their care for creating a friendly environment was palpable from their care of the surroundings, the ambience of meal times, the careful seating of people, outstanding cooking and, most noticably, a team of staff who clearly cared about their work, not only because it was important to them but because thet felt respected by and cared for by Marianne and Rob as their managers.

Varied walks in really interesting terrain - great pools for skinny dipping. It came highly recommended and it deserves all the recommendation it is given as a lodge - which is down to Rob and Marianne and their staff.
