My Jun 2012 trip

Tanzania between 1 Jun 2012 and 8 Jun 2012

Trip rating: Excellent
"The trip overall was amazing, we saw a lot of Tanzania in just 6 days and really loved the country, the people, the landscapes and places we visited, the wildlife - so much so that we want to go back.

Claire was very helpful in putting this trip together, and it was super well organised all the way through - absolutely everything went to plan, and we felt throughout that we were in very good hands.

We had already been to Namibia with Expert Africa in 2007 and given this Tanzania trip was another very positive experience, we would definitely contact Expert Africa again to organise our next trip to Africa."

Gibb's Farm

Gibb's Farm

"Gibb's Farm review"

2 nights Arrived 2 Jun 2012
"We very much enjoyed our stay at Gibb's Farm, the place has a wonderful "Out of Africa" feel to it, with the guest rooms located in the middle of an active coffee plantation. The views from the terrace and the main guest house are stunning, the food is excellent and all the staff are friendly and helpful. Our guest room was spacious and beautiful, and as we stayed in early June when the nights and early mornings are very cold, we particularly appreciated the fireplace in the room.
Our only suggestion for improvement would to reduce the humidity in the rooms (even the bed linen felt uncomfortably humid) either by installing de-humidifiers and/or by providing more firewood to last the night.
We also want to say a special thanks to Ami, our guide for the Manyara / Ngorongoro leg of the trip who was excellent, really friendly and welcoming, just the loveliest person, as well as totally reliable, very knowledgeable and always happy to answer our endless questions about his country."

Dunia Camp

Dunia Camp

"Dunia Camp review"

2 nights Arrived 4 Jun 2012
"We absolutely loved Dunia! This was our favourite place of the whole trip. The location is magical, truly in the middle of the bush, and we could hear the wildebeest migration and the hyenas from our tent at night. Richard, Peter and the entire team at Dunia created a wonderful atmosphere and really made us feel part of "Dunia family", especially in the evenings when everyone meets around the fireplace outside to admire the African night skies and exchange highlights of the day's game drives. The service is outstanding with the hot "bucket showers" a particular highlight, the food is excellent, the tent very comfortable and the landscapes around the camp very beautiful.
But it is Patena, our guide, and his trainee, Hamza, who really made our stay unforgettable with a series of superb game drives - we have been on a number of trips and game drives in southern Africa but the quantity of game we saw around Dunia and the quality of the sightings were unrivaled. The first day Patena asked us what we would particularly like to see and when we said we had not seen a leopard yet he found us three leopards that same day! Other highlights included a cheetah with her cub and a close encounter with a stretching male lion. Patena and Hamza also taught us a lot about the different animals, their behaviour and social structure.
Dunia is a real gem and we would highly recommend a stay there to everyone visiting Tanzania."

Sayari Camp

Sayari Camp

"Sayari Mara Camp review"

2 nights Arrived 6 Jun 2012
"We were very impressed with Sayari - it is a beautiful, luxurious camp in a remote location by the Mara River where hippos roam the camp at night. Tanja, Eric and the team made us feel very welcome, the service and food were excellent, and our tent was beautiful with stunning views over the valley and into Kenya.
Given its proximity to the Mara River, Sayari is a great location for seeing crocodiles and hippos and we saw plenty. Our guide Malaki also spotted rare black rhino and we observed them from very close which was fascinating.
We liked Sayari but early June was not the ideal time to visit the camp - after the long rains the roads were very bad, and we got stuck once as did a number of other vehicles from the camp. Also the tse tse flies were in abundance and long sleeves and insect repellent did little to deter them, plus the game viewing was very quiet compared to Dunia as the migration was still further south. A great camp but probably better visited in July/August."
