Selous and Ruaha July 2017

Tanzania between 1 Jul 2017 and 10 Jul 2017

Trip rating: Excellent
"This was our first safari, initially there are so many options it's difficult to know where to go, for how many days and which camps to go for. Lyndsey was our travel coordinator and guided us through a twin location of Selous and Ruaha. It's hard not to have high expectations for a holiday like this but we were both blown away with the whole trip. The first camp was super friendly, we had really personal service a fabulous guide and great food, we had such a good time we were worried that the second camp wouldn't be able to match our experience. But there was no need, Ruaha was just as special. Having the two locations, one camp on a river and the other on top of hill made for a winning combination with a diverse range of terrains and animals.

We loved every aspect of our trip and have so many memories that will live with us forever I don't know if we will ever be able to top this."

Impala Camp

Impala Camp

"Selous Impala Camp review"

3 nights Arrived 2 Jul 2017
"This was our first safari so we didn't know what to expect from the camp, the whole experience was amazing. Because the camp is small the service is personal. Warmly greeted from the airstrip by your guide with a cold towel, drinks and nibbles. At the camp the management team immediately meet you. You have a dedicated waiter and Maasai for the duration of your stay so you feel like you have your own personal team taking care of you. The camp wasn't full so we had a personal guide for all our safari trips. Ezra was a lovely guy, calm, genuine and incredibly knowledgeable we learnt so much. The food was delicious, breads and cakes all homemade and tasty nibbles to accompany drinks.

The safari trips were our highlight we went out twice a day, in Selous the guides can drive off the main tracks so you get very close up with the animals. On our final safari we did a bush walk and at the end we came to a clearing where they had set up table, chairs and a bottle of bubbly to celebrate our final evening watching the sunset - gorgeous.

The Impala team have a friendly family feel, Christal delivers a great front of house, regularly checking in. The level of service and care was extremely high and made for a wonderful stay. We really struggle to find something that would have improved our stay, maybe there could have been more lighting in the tent to help get ready or unchanged but this is really a tiny point and we have to remind ourselves we were in tents after all!!!!!"

Ikuka Safari Camp

Ikuka Safari Camp

"Breathtaking location"

4 nights Arrived 5 Jul 2017
"Ikuka Camp is in a stunning location, beautifully decorated and with breathtaking views. As we entered the camp for the first time we were greeted by the staff all enthusiastically waving with both hands and big smilingly faces.

The tents are open plan but discreetly positioned, you don't even have to lift your head off the pillow to take in the amazing view. Food was delicious, beautifully presented. Fish curry and steak dishes were our favourites.

The Ruaha National Park has a diverse range of terrain, we went in the dry season and crisscrossed the dry river beds and saw a huge amount of animals. Our highlights were a prowling leopard, watching a mother elephant creating a water hole for her baby to drink from and two separate lion prides with their kill. Being two meters from a male lion panting heavily after his feed will live with me forever.

Ikuka Camp feels high end and is all presented around its beautiful view, staff service is high with extra touches (little green fleeced hot water bottles for your early morning safari, they made us up a pack lunch for our retuning journey as we had a long wait at the airport) and just like as we arrived the staff all come out to give you a big waving send off."
