My Oct 2022 trip

Kenya between 19 Oct 2022 and 30 Oct 2022

Trip rating: Excellent
"It was a dream trip, superbly organised and flawlessly executed.

We couldn't be more thankful with the way Jessica dealt with various changes in our schedules, through the pandemic, and afterwards.
She was patient, kind, and always at hand to reply to queries. This trip was what it was because of all her attention to detail.

We must also mention George of Southern Safaris, who was incredibly helpful on our last day in Nairobi, driving us around the city and waiting while we had a late dinner since our flight was at midnight, insisting all the while that we not hurry and instead enjoy his city."

Four Points Nairobi Airport

Four Points Nairobi Airport

"Four Points Nairobi Airport review"

1 night Arrived 20 Oct 2022
"We spent one night at Four Points Nairobi Airport, and found the overall stay to be good.

The rooms were comfortable and clean, as well as having all the modern amenities we needed. Though breakfast was delicious and had a wide variety of options to choose from, dinner - in the terrace restaurant - was not great. The buffalo chicken wings were very sweet, which they are not meant to be, and when we asked them to correct it they just added red chilli powder to it, to the point where it was inedible. All of their dishes were sweet, even the mains.

Although the hotel was close to the airport, when it came to exploring the city we found the location to be inconvenient.

The staff were very friendly and hospitable."

Hemingways Ol Seki Mara

Hemingways Ol Seki Mara

"Hemingways Ol Seki Mara review"

3 nights Arrived 21 Oct 2022
"We absolutely loved Hemingways Ol Seki Mara.

We were in Nina 8, and the tent was beautiful and had a stunning 270º view, perfect for sunrises. The space was light filled and tastefully decorated. The outdoor shower was a wonderful experience and we enjoyed the afternoons spent sitting in the outdoor patio.
The room had all the amenities we needed apart from a kettle, which would have been useful.

Food was exceptional. We loved the breakfasts, especially the banana pancakes; they were delicious. The bush breakfast was an unexpected and exciting surprise.

The lounge area was beautiful, again with great views, and was a very nice place to spend time when the day got hotter.

The staff were all very friendly and welcoming. The best part of the trip were our masai guides, Isaac and Benjamin, who made our game drives extraordinary - they were both knowledgable and warm.

A big thanks to Debbie, who took personal care in ensuring that this 25th anniversary trip was special. She arranged a a surprise bush dinner, complete with a bonfire and personalised service, as well as organising a trip to another camp where we wanted to meet friends without charging us anything extra."

Water Lovers Beach Resort

Water Lovers Beach Resort

"Water Lovers Beach Resort review"

5 nights Arrived 24 Oct 2022
"We liked our stay in this resort.

Staff were very friendly and helpful. They had decorated our room for our 25th Anniversary, as well as the front of the cottage - while it was a nice touch, having the front porch decorated with a large heart, which stayed the the duration of our stay, was a tad loud and embarrassing for us. I think it would be far nicer to have a bottle of wine, or something special at dinner.

Breakfast was good. However when it came to lunches/dinners the menu had hardly any Kenyan options, apart from the single African dinner night. Also, portion sizes were quite meagre, even for us who are small eaters. Drinks were very overpriced compared even to top restaurants in Nairobi, like Talisman, where a Negroni was 1050 K Shillings, compared 1200 KSh at Waterlovers. We often ate at the next door restaurant 'Asha' which had Kenyan options - moderately priced with generous portions. However, a special thanks to the chef at Waterlovers who, at our request, cooked us a wonderful Kenyan fish stew on the last day.

On the whole, while it is a beautiful property, we found it to be lacking in generosity -- not the staff, who were wonderful and couldn't do enough for us -- but the management."
