My May 2025 trip
Namibia between 2 May 2025 and 28 May 2025
"We had a great time, and the trip more than exceeded our expectations. There are so many lovely memories that we will treasure. We loved the diverse landscape, the friendly people and the freedom to do what we wanted.
We have only 2 reservations about the trip. First the car hire. Prior to booking with Expert Africa (our trip has taken 8 years from initial idea, through various drafts, to final commitment ) other companies had suggested we needed a 4X4 vehicle. Megan suggested this was only necessary if we were there during the rainy season. The car we had was a Toyota Corolla Cross. It was OK, but not the most comfortable for a trip of 1 month. The clearance on the car was not very high and this is why we had the problems in the sand on the way to Duwisib. We had no equipment in the car (eg a shovel) to help us in sand. I know the rains in Namibia in April were exceptional, but I feel Expert Africa could have been a little more proactive before we left and offered the possibility of changing the car in advance of our arrival.
Second, Etosha. I think if we were to do the trip again and we knew that the road around Etosha was to be closed until November 2025, we would not stay at Okaukuejo Camp. We felt this was very poor value for money."
