Excellent Botswana wildlife trip May 2025
Botswana between 19 May 2025 and 25 May 2025
The Guides at Lagoon (Ike) and Rra Dinare (Rasta) were great. We did a Walking Safari at Lagoon and a Mokoro ar Rra Dinare. These were also super enjoyable. The night safaris were well arranged with adequate flexibility.
Rra Dinare has a few areas to improve upon, which I have mentioned in the section on Rra Dinare."

"Rra Dinare review"
SAFARIS:
Our guide was Rasta and Tracker was Mike. The safaris were ultra super duper fantastic! :) We saw a pack of 20+ Wild Dogs, a male leopard and a female leopard separately, a pride of 2 lionesses and 4 cubs, 2 honey badgers (extremely rare species), a male lion stalking and pouncing on a full grown buffalo (missed it though), a separate pride of 2 lionesses, 2 sub-adults and 2 cubs, and a leopard on a tree eating an impala kill! Rasta was superb in off-roading as soon as we spotted anything. He knows the entire Kwando area at the back of his hand. We also saw four Cheetah brothers and tracked them for over an hour. And then we saw two lion brothers in deep bonding mode and tracked them for an hour and a half.
On one night game drive we had almost reached the camp when Rasta got the news that one of his colleagues had spotted a leopard but he did not have a spotlight. Rasta immediately drove back throught the dark African bush, as if he was driving in his backyard! And lo and behold, when we reached, we indeed saw a glorious leopard sitting on a tree branch! Rasta and Mike also helped us with a Mokoro ride which is a must-do, when in Botswana.
All-in-all, the safaris were fantastic!
CAMP STAY:
POSITIVES:
The Rra Dinare camp is set around a very old Amarula tree and that makes the setting beautiful. We had wild buffalos come right under our chalet at night, making the experience thrilling. We could also see more buffalos and some elephants from our balcony. The Camp room was good, with a dressing area, attached room for kids and an outdoor shower. The food was good with good variety across breakfast and dinner. The camp staff were polite and helpful.
NOT-SO-POSITIVES:
(1) When we checked in, we noticed that one corner of the tent top was open and cold breeze was rushing in. When we pointed it out, it was fixed quickly. However, it is expected that Housekeeping would do these checks before a guest checks in.
(2) Since we stayed during winter (very cold nights), the Camp was giving hot water bags at night. We were given the bags on the first night, but not on the second and third nights, despite asking. I suspect they had run out of hot bags due to a large group checking in - which is not acceptable.
(3) The Camp is nice and comfortable. However, since we had the experience of staying at Lagoon Camp just before Rra Dinare, some important differences became obvious - Rra Dinare did not have any reading material either in the room or in the common area (Lagoon Camp had); Rra Dinare did not have a bathtub (Lagoon Camp had); Rra Dinare did not have an indoor shower option (Lagoon Camp had); Rra Dinare had only one toilet in the family chalet for 4 people, which is inadequate (Lagoon Camp had the same issue), and
(4) despite informing the Camp well in advance that we do not eat beef/pork, they sent beef for the sundowner on one of the evenings - which was clearly unacceptable.
In summary, the Rra Dinare Camp is good, food is tasty and adequate, and staff is polite, but overall Camp management and attention to guest comfort detail can be improved."

The Safaris - aided by guide Ike and Tracker Vinnie - were very rewarding. We also did a Walking Safari at Lagoon.
Two areas to potentially improve upon:
(1) variety in the food could be a bit more and
(2) family chalet should have at least two toilets (if you have one toilet for 3/4 people, that doesnt help much)."
