August 2015 - Selous & Ruaha

Tanzania between 20 Aug 2015 and 29 Aug 2015

Trip rating: Excellent
"Our trip back to Tanzania after 7 years was every bit as wonderful as we expected.

Added bonus this time Leopard and Cheetah sightings. Both Impala in Selous and Mwagusi in Ruaha were exceptional camps and we would recommend them to anyone wishing to take a safari. Both areas have a diverse animal population giving a fantastic safari experience."

Impala Camp

Impala Camp

"Impala Camp - a great location & wild life"

4 nights Arrived 21 Aug 2015
"Our guide/driver, Dennis, was excellent. All the staff and the two managers made us feel most welcome and by the end of our stay we felt like 'family'. This was our second visit to Selous and didn't disappoint. Wonderful animal spotting including leopard! Without Dennis this sighting would not have happened. The river safari was excellent with good bird activity and lots of crocs and hippos.

Breakfasts in the bush were very good and the sundowner on our last night a lovely touch as we watch the sun sink over the river.

The camp was in an ideal position on the river and the tents were fine with good verandas. Only one minor irritation the lighting in the tent was poor - it only needs to be a little brighter so that you can see what you are looking for. Lighting in the bath room area was good."

Mwagusi Safari Camp

Mwagusi Safari Camp

"Fantastic safari at Mwagusi,"

4 nights Arrived 25 Aug 2015
"Our second visit to this laid back but efficient camp. We weren't disappointed. Met at the airstrip by Geofrey - who was our guide 7 years ago and guided us again. We were met at camp by Yvonne the camp manager, who immediately made us feel like family (and she didnt know it was a second visit for us). All the staff were exceptional and worked hard to maintain the feeling of relaxed efficiency. The who team were helpful, kind and couldn't do enough for us.

Food at Mwagusi if fantastic. Breakfasts for us were all in the bush and were very yummy, particularly the cinnamon bread. Lunches buffet style - a meat dish, veggie dish and various salads. Different each day and always good. Dinners - taken in and around the camp. Drinks around the fire and then starter, buffet style dinner served from pots sitting in hot embers from the fire. Every dinner we had was excellent. Puddings finished off the evening. The bush dinners are a feature at Mwagusi and can not fail to please.

Wild life in Ruaha is very relaxed as the animals have absolutely no fear of humans. This means you can get very close to them to spend time watching their behaviour. We had an amazing encounter with a young leopard who used our truck as cover whilst staking out his prey! To make the trip even more memorable we also spotted a cheetah. How luck we were in the number of animals spotted - too many to mention.

What a wonderful camp in a great location this is!"
