Travel reviews by Mr B and Ms L from Ohio, USA
My Aug 2013 trip
On this trip, I visited Tanzania between 26-Aug-2013 and 1-Sep-2013 and I travelled with 1 other person.
The trip was frankly spoiled by matters beyond the control of you or the camps. The park is very commercialized and touristy and the use of radios and swarms of cars makes the "Africa USA" sites in the US seem somehow more authentic
Your office staff is very accomodating and helpful
We were obviously very, very concerned by the 'poor' rating that these travellers gave to this trip, and so we asked them to elaborate and tell us a bit more about why the trip had disappointed them. They wrote to us:
"Thanks for your response. I thought your company and Eleanor were both wonderful. We had been to Africa many times over the past 35 years and found the crass commercialization of the experience a shock this time. So many cars, continuous use of the radio, tourists with little respect for the animals. We were really disappointed."
We think that this relates to the rapid growth in the number of camps in the northern Serengeti. Aug/Sept is migration time here, and this year (2013) there have been more vehicles than ever watching for the wildebeest crossings - and cleary there were so many that they had a really negative effect on the experience for these 'old Africa hands'.
