Trip rating: Excellent
"we had a fabulous return to Africa (our first visit for almost 40 years!). We were recommended to Expert Africa by friends living in Tanzania and were very impressed with the service provided. James provided us with a great deal of information and if he couldn't answer a question he said so!

We were disappointed in one lodge where we stayed but James had made clear to us before booking that he didn't have any personal knowledge of this lodge. For the lodges which were recommend by EA we found their descriptions to have been fair and reliable. EA arranged all our local connections - taxis and flights and all worked out very well without a hitch."

Matemwe Lodge

Matemwe Lodge

"Zanzibar for relaxation"

4 nights Arrived 26 Jan 2015
"We enjoyed our four night stay at Matemwe lodge, The room was excellent with delightful terrace from which to sit and watch the fishing boats and dhows slip by. The staff were attentive and friendly.

We had an excellent excursion for snorkelling and also had the opportunity to swim with the dolphins. Apart from this excursion, swimming was difficult. The pool was very small (only a plunge pool really) and the tides were generally low while we were there which made swimming from the beach impractical.

Overall though a very nice place to relax for four days"

Serena Inn

Serena Inn

"Luxury in Stonetown"

3 nights Arrived 30 Jan 2015
"The Serena Inn in Stonetown is a very comfortable hotel with excellent facilities and staff. We paid for a room upgrade and had a fabulous room with a huge balcony looking out to sea - fabulous sunsets!

The roof top restaurant was a good place to dine once - although we were disappointed that the lobster was not available the night we were there."

Selous Impala Camp

Selous Impala Camp

"Memorable safari"

4 nights Arrived 2 Feb 2015
"We had a fabulous four day safari at Selous Impala Camp, The tent accommodation, whilst not luxurious, was perfectly comfortable and all the staff were really excellent. We had very personal service throughout our stay from our guide, our driver, our waiter and our Masai guard! The weather was hot in February (approaching 40 degrees) but the excellent game vehicles and carefully sited lodge buildings meant we were never uncomfortable (except for one night when the fan stopped working)

The game drives were great and we saw everything we hoped to see - and more! On top of that the boat safaris added a new dimension in game and bird viewing. We also did a walking safari one morning which was good but we would have liked it to be a little longer.

A highlight for us were the picnic breakfasts - tables and chairs set up in the middle of the bush as we sat down to sausage, egg and bacon with our guide and driver.

We spent three weeks in Tanzania. The four nights in Selous were definitely the best."

Vuma Hills

Vuma Hills

"One night at Vuma"

1 night Arrived 6 Feb 2015
"We were disappointed with Vuma Hills after four excellent nights at Selous Impala Camp. The place seemed a bit run down and seen better days.

We did have two good game drives in the park. We were joined by two friends who live in Tanzania and were surprised to find out later our friends were charged US$ 240 for joining us on the game drives. I should like to know the cost of this accommodation both for ourselves and our friends (both were booked through Expert Africa - although we were told before booking that EA did not have any up to date information on this lodge)"

Udzungwa Forest Camp

Udzungwa Forest Camp

"One night at Udzungwa"

1 night Arrived 7 Feb 2015
"We enjoyed our one night at Udzungwa although we had underestimated some distances and time taken to travel on some rough roads. Our own fault but it did mean we weren't there for very long.

We were hoping to see colobus monkeys and the Honda Honda hornbills but we only managed brief glimpses of both. The tents were comfortable and looked fairly new. The outside shower rooms were good except there was a problem with the water supply when we were there and only cold water for the morning shower!

The staff were very friendly and tried to meet our various requests as best they could"
