My Nov 2015 trip
Tanzania between 1 Nov 2015 and 12 Nov 2015
Liz Wollen's recommendations as to the best balance for the trip and the camps to stay at were really helpful, and we are so grateful for all the work that went in to making sure we got the whole of the ten days' trip. A lot of the reorganisation - rebooking airlines and camps had to be done late at night, our time, and Maruska, in New Zealand did so much reorganising so quickly and kept us up to date.
Liz and Maruska really rescued our trip and for that we are immensely grateful.

Kwihala Camp
"Kwihala Camp review"
The guiding (we had three on different occasions) is outstanding. We especially valued Noel's extensive knowledge and enthusiasm and his evident enjoyment in sharing what he knows. He also has an eye for finding the best angles for photographers, and his quiet approach to guiding and the way he drives gave us so many wonderful sights. Alex is a specialist walking guide who is also immensely knowledgeable and who gave us a quite different and complementary experience to the one we'd had in Manze.
The food in Kwihala is quite simply superb. The evening meal was always a lovely experience with the staff doing their utmost to make our time in the camp the best possible.
The night game drive is really to be recommended. We had sightings of bat-eared foxes, an ardwolf, and bush babies.
The tents are beautifully done with very comfortable beds and excellent shower facilities, though they are bucket showers. My one complaint was with the hyena who kicked off just outside our tent at four in the morning.
The whole was an unforgettable experience."

Ras Kutani, Tanzania (this camp has since closed)

The food is very good with a wide range of cocktails and a very attractive eating area which looks out over the ocean.
Massage is highly recommended."

The guiding is simply superb. Haroun, our guide is immensely knowledgeable and also keen to share his evident enthusiasm. We went on half and full day safaris and a walking safari which is highly recommended in learning about the bird and plant life of the area. The boat safari is also well worth while.
Even at the end of the dry season there is enough water around to make the area very varied and the bird life is abundant. We also saw a pair of lionesses pursuing a leopard (she escaped), hundreds of hippos in the mud, wallowing amongst the catfish, a giraffe creche, and astonishingly close views of lions.
The camp has no electricity which does create a special atmosphere. Weather permitting, meals are outside between two bonfires and the atmosphere was always convivial. Given the fact that the cooking conditions are quite basic, the meals are excellent. The tents are comfortable with good showers, and after dark we were always accompanied to our tent by a masai, which we were especially glad of when he shone his torch on a couple of hippo about 20 yards away.
We'd have no hesitation in recommending this camp."
