A fantastic first experience of Africa

Tanzania between 13 Jun 2009 and 21 Jun 2009

Trip rating: Excellent
"Marvellous experience. The trip exceeded our expectations. We would like to thank Ellie very much for the advice and suggestions she made when putting together the itinery for our safari. She listened to our needs - we are keen bird watchers but we also wished to experience all the diverse aspects of an African safari. She suggested lodges whcih would give us a range of safari experiences and would fit our budget - a tented camp, upmarket lodge and a more basic lodge. We really appreciated this; it worked very well in giving us a broad safari experience for our first time in Africa. We had also specified a guide with a specialist knowledge of birds. Note had been taken of this. Ayoub, our guide, was excellent.

The itinery arrangements (meetings, transfers, accommodation, transport and filights) worked well - without exception.
We would definitely recommend Expert Africa, and Ellie - who always responded very promptly, patiently and knwlegeably to all our queries. We would also recommend our guide, Ayoub. He was very friendly, efficient and looked after us very well in addition to being an excellent wildllife guide.

Suggestions for improvements:

Not really! - outstanding overall trip thanks to Expert Africa and Sokwe/Asilia."

Tarangire Safari Lodge

Tarangire Safari Lodge

"Tarangire Safari Lodge review"

2 nights Arrived 14 Jun 2009
"Excellent location and superb views of the wildlife (elephants buffalo, gibbon, giraffe, wildebeast....) at the river from our tent. The location was very good for being amongst the wildlife with several animals (elephant and giraffe) just a few meters away (giraffe droppings outside our tent one morning!). As birdwatchers, we also appreciated views of several species from just outside our tent.

Staff were pleaseant and helpful and the Masai were vigilant in escorting us after dark. The tent and contents were very clean, comfortable bed, and the lodge organisation overall was good. This was a good first camp for us in a quiet and peaceful location and we enjoyed the experience of staying in a tent.

It was a pity we couldn't eat with our guide in the evenings - we would have liked to do this. It appeared that his accommodation was rather basic and he found it uncomfortable"

Rhino Lodge

Rhino Lodge

"Rhino Lodge review"

2 nights Arrived 16 Jun 2009
"This lodge was a contrast to the Tarangire lodge, being more basic, but we enjoyed it very much. It had a homely feel about it and the staff were very firendly and helpful. (and provided us with filled hot water bottles on our first night.) A bonus was a small private balcony. It was helpful to have prior warning from Ellie (Expert Africa) that it could be cold at night, so we went prepared and were not cold at all. Again, we liked being close to wildlife and it was exciting for us to have a buffalo outside our balcony one morning.

We liked the more inclusive nature of the lodge which enabled us to dine with our guide - the only one of our camps which allowed this. He said that this camp provided him with the best accommodation of all three camps we stayed in. We think this is important as he had full days driving and escorting us."

"Mbalageti Lodge review"

3 nights Arrived 18 Jun 2009
"This was the most upmarket of the camps and we appreciated the more luxurious facilities e.g. excellent choice and quality of food, bed linen, furnishings etc. and the spacious feel. Staff were very attentive and accommodating in keeping the electricity generator on an extra hour in the late evening so that we could check in for our flights home. Lovely views of the Serengeti from our standard room. A small point - because of the block layout of the standard rooms, these were noisy when fellow guests in adjoining rooms returned late or left early in the morning.

Our guide's accommodation apparently was not very comfortable, compared with the Rhino Lodge and we were unable to dine with him in the evening."
