Black-backed Jackal Safari: Day-by-day
More detailed information of what each day entails, and the various places you’ll stay on the Black-backed Jackal Safari. Everything we do is completely tailor-made so while this is an idea which works well, we’ll always design an itinerary just for you.
Starts: Kasane Airport
4WD transfer from Kasane to Chobe Under Canvas
At the small Kasane Airport, you'll be warmly welcomed by a representative of Chobe Under Canvas. After a short distance on paved roads, enter Chobe National Park where you'll spot plenty of wildlife during the 90 minutes or so that it takes to reach camp.

Chobe Under Canvas
Chobe Under Canvas aims to combine the advantages of a mobile camping safari with the luxuries of a semi-permanent tented camp. Always based in the Chobe Riverfront area of the Chobe National Park, the camp is packed up every fifth day (in keeping with the national park's mobile-camping rules) and moved to a different private site in the same area.

"a wonderful experience"

Although Chobe Under Canvas retains a semi-permanent camping atmosphere, the tents, service and food are more in keeping with Botswana's excellent safari lodges. It offers wonderful wildlife viewing, especially at the end of the dry season, and a more economical, and slightly more adventurous, alternative to many of the country's other lodges and camps. However, travellers need to accept that game-viewing here, in the national park, won't usually be as exclusive as is the norm in Botswana's private safari reserves. 4WD & light aircraft from Chobe Under Canvas to Nxabega
From your Chobe camp it is about a 90-minute transfer to Kasane Airport, where you board a light aircraft for the next exciting stage of your safari. Following the 80-minute flight, over the remote woodlands and snaking waterways of the Okavango Delta, it's just a short drive to Nxabega.

Nxabega Tented Camp
Nxabega Okavango Tented Camp (formerly known as ‘Nxabega Safari Camp’ – and often to most of us simply as “Nxabega") is set in an area of mixed woodlands and floodplains situated within a 70km2 private concession in Botswana’s Okavango Delta, to the west of Chief's Island. The camp’s pedigree is good, and it aims for a very high standard of food, comfort and care, with completely new tents in 2016. There’s both dry land and water around, and so it offers game drives as well as mokoro and boating activities.

"Absolutely excellent. AK, our guide, was simply superb."

We think that Nxabega is a lovely safari camp – with beautiful new rooms, high standards of friendly service, good guiding and imaginative food. During the dry season, Nxabega isn't usually top of our list for guaranteed high game densities; then we think of this camp more for its water-based activities. But during Botswana's green season, the story is different: then game is generally less easily seen everywhere across the Delta, but Nxabega comes into its own as a relatively good choice for game viewing.
