My Sep 2022 trip

Tanzania between 17 Sep 2022 and 27 Sep 2022

Trip rating: Excellent
"All of us greatly enjoyed our trip.

Ruaha is a wonderfully scenic park and its location at the northern limit of some species and the southern limit of others means that it houses a unique variety of animals.

We had some excellent sightings including roan antelope, numerous lions, including a mating pair right by the jeep, and leopard four times.

We stayed at Mwagusi first and then Ikuka and both camps were excellent."

"Due to problems on our outward journey and very late arrival into Dar es Salaam, we only spent about two and a half hours at the Hyatt Regency.

Nevertheless, our limited experience was all fine."

Mwagusi Safari Camp

Mwagusi Safari Camp

"Mwagusi Safari Camp review"

3 nights Arrived 19 Sep 2022
"This was a return trip for us as we had visited Mwagusi some 15 years ago. When the owner realised this, he arranged for us to have the same guide that we had had on our previous visit which was a nice touch.

We had a very enjoyable 3 night stay with excellent guiding yielding several lion sightings, including a mating pair, a leopard and roan antelope. We also did a night drive and Mwagusi is one of very few camps in Ruaha able to offer this facility.

Mwagusi is one of the pioneer camps in Ruaha and is in a prime location for wildlife. The accommodation is spacious and comfortable. The food was good and the dinners at different settings in the dried-up river bed around the fire and under the stars were magical. The owner joined us for the communal dinners and has many interesting stories to tell."

Ikuka Safari Camp

Ikuka Safari Camp

"Ikuka Safari Camp review"

4 nights Arrived 22 Sep 2022
"Ikuka is a beautiful and well appointed camp set high on an escarpment with wonderful views down to the Mwagusi river and across the park. The managers and all the rest of the in-camp staff were extremely welcoming and capable. The food was exceptional and the communal dinners were great fun.

We spent four nights at Ikuka and we had an excellent time. The standard of guiding is generally very good and we saw plently of animals including lions several times and three leopard sightings.

The best of the latter being on our last morning, en route to the airport, which our guide personally tracked down having noticed footprints on the road."
