"The art and the overall aesthetic is fantastic! The whole place was super clean and the rooms very comfortable. Beautiful common areas as well. We appreciated there being plenty to eat at breakfast for plant based/vegan diet. The bath products in the room were high quality. This will definitely be our go-to hotel for any future stays in Lusaka."

"The camp is as amazing in real life as the photographs on the website. To have one's own deck overlooking the floodplain and the river - to just relax in the middle of the day and watch the Elephant, Warthogs, Impala and Baboons while you laze about on your own private deck is wonderful.

The uniqueness of the Wintethorn Forest and the light of the place is really special.

We opted for two river cruises while we were there and they offered a welcome break to the dust of the game drives and the most serene way to watch hippos, crocs, all manner of birds, and even elephants up close in the water, not to mention magnificent sunsets. I loved to just drift with the current of the mighty Zambezi.

Staff were friendly and professional. Dennis and Eunice checked in with us regularly to ensure all of our needs were being met.

One of the many wildlife highlights for us was seeing a mother leopard and her cub right at camp below the walkway to the tents one night after dinner!!

There was one meal where staff had forgotten about our vegan diet - it was not a huge deal and we worked around it, and rather than mentioning this as a critique, it is meant as a compliment that management were very responsive in making sure we were not overlooked again in the menu planning. The food was excellent.

This area of the park is really incredible and a photographer’s dream. The camp itself is gorgeous."

"We visited Lion Camp after being at Anabezi in Lower Zambezi and it was a really complimentary pairing. While not dissimilar to each other, the landscapes are quite different in these two locations. As well, Lion Camp felt more secluded.

The management and staff are fantastic. Oscar was very welcoming and approachable, and Vicky and Wayne made a point of getting to know each guest group a little bit and always making sure our needs were being met. The feeling of Lion Camp is small and personal, in the best way.

Below the deck of our tent a couple of bachelor hippos constantly lounged and entertained us - along with a host of birds. On our last day a bull elephant came down right in front of us to drink and eat beside the hippos who paid him little mind. Just incredible to watch it all from 20 to 30 feet away!!

Our guide, Robert, at Lion Camp is the best we've ever had - and we have a fair bit of previous safari experience. His communication skills are excellent and shared really interesting insights about the people, flora and fauna of the region. He always found the good sightings and seemed to have a fantastic rapport with other guides. Most importantly, we appreciated the respect he had for the wildlife - always giving room to the animals to go about their business unencumbered by our viewing, and he made a point of making sure we were always in agreement on plans for our game drives.

Ironically Lion Camp was where we had the epic Leopard sightings and not as much Lions on this particular trip. A highlight for us was seeing a Leopard up in a tree watching an oncoming baboon troop, and then climbing down to hide in a thicket before they spotted her - then pouncing out and killing one amidst the intense screams and protest of 40 or 50 baboons, defending her kill as they swarmed her and then confidently carrying it off into another thicket. Later that day we found her in the same thicket with her young cub - probably only the second or third time anyone had seen this young Leopard! Another highlight was seeing a pack of Wild Dogs twice! What a privilege to see these animals!!

We would love to return to this camp in the future."
