This comfortable safari holiday uses two different camps as bases from which to explore the Selous Game Reserve, gaining real insight into Tanzania's largest game reserve. Impala Camp and Sand Rivers provide a great contrast and the journey between them, across the park's different environments, helps you see different aspects of the Selous – a remarkable World Heritage.
From the domestic terminal in Dar es Salaam you will hop on a light aircraft flight to Mtemere Airstrip in the Selous Game Reserve. This flight is about 45 minutes, and upon arriving in the Selous there is a 20 minute drive to Selous Impala Camp. You usually arrive in time for lunch, and will then spend 4 nights here enjoying the safari activities on offer.
Leaving the Impala Camp, you continue spotting game as you voyage deeper into the Selous. After a few hours, you will rendezvous with a 4WD from Sand Rivers – usually under a big baobab tree. Continue on safari with them back to camp, where you'll stay for 3 nights beside the river at Sand Rivers Camp. Make the most of your activities here; they include motorboat trips up the impressive Steiglers Gorge, as well as 4WD safaris and excellent walking safaris.
After your last morning on safari, you will fly back to Dar es Salaam. From there you may choose to continue onto one of Tanzania's islands for a relaxing beach holiday – perhaps Zanzibar, Pemba, or Mafia .
