Whirlwind tour of the Delta

Botswana between 31 Jul 2011 and 6 Aug 2011

Trip rating: Excellent
"The whole trip was a big success. We were torn between two camps for 3 nights or three camps for 2 nights each before we went and I am not sure which would be better even with hindsight - maybe just a longer holiday would be the answer.

This was the first time we have been to Africa without either our children and/or friends and being just two has its drawbacks. The possibility of incompatible jeep mates and the relentless socialising with new people (where are you from? which camps are you visiting etc.) was potentially an issue. We are naturally gregarious and generally had good luck with the above but I would bear it in mind in the future given that all the camps seem to go for the single table dining experience.

Your advice on camps seems to have been very good (unless all the camps are this standard) and as the weather warmed up through the week we thought that for perfection we perhaps should have gone one or two weeks later.

Suggestions to help us improve our trips or our service:/b

Nothing strikes me. It was all very smooth and professional."

Kwara Camp

Kwara Camp

"Great action on and off the water at Kwara"

2 nights Arrived 31 Jul 2011
"A good broad based experience of the Delta. Enjoyed the mukora/canoe trip and the boat trip was a good change of pace. We saw a wide range of game (although not many predators) and birds - expertly guided. We were lucky with our jeep mates at this camp (Nick and Rebecca - also customers of yours I think) and liked the enthusiasm and warmth of the staff.

Accommodation was the most spartan of the camps we stayed in but still a long way from roughing it. The only cavil would be to say that having only an outside shower at this time of year is a bit challenging. We thought the cooking here was about the best we experienced in Botswana."

Lagoon Camp

Lagoon Camp

"Wilddog puppies just out of the den at Lagoon"

2 nights Arrived 2 Aug 2011
"Lovely new rooms that were more like houses. Game a bit sparser here but we did see very small wilddog puppies which was certainly a treat. The boat trip was relaxing but not as interesting as at Kwara. Food was fine without being exceptional.

We shared a vehicle with a family of four, who were very pleasant but with just two rows of seats this could have been a problem in different circumstances (as well as the issue of two people sitting in the middle).

As everywhere there were very nice and enthusiastic staff."

Chitabe Camp

Chitabe Camp

"Great leopard action at Chitabe"

2 nights Arrived 4 Aug 2011
"Given recent rainfall this camp is no longer as "dry" as we thought it was going to be but none the worse for that.

We had some very expert guiding with a male leopard trying to attract the attention of a local female. When we found her she was heading in the opposite direction at some speed - fascinating.

Birds once again were spectacular."
