Experiences which brought me tears of joy ...

Namibia between 7 Jul 2013 and 12 Jul 2013

Trip rating: Excellent
"I think my experiences of this trip may be summed up as superb. I am 66 years of age and I have made it known that if I am fit and able when I turn 70 I want to bring my family (including grand children) on a similar trip."

1 night Arrived 7 Jul 2013
"This was a delightful haven to assist some recovery from Jet Lag. It was very clean, comfortable and adequately appointed.

We happened upon a quiet time in the tourist season and enjoyed long chats with the owner/chef.
Having left a dog at kennels in N.Z. we enjoyed the 4 dogs belonging to the owners at this resort.

This was a gentle introduction into the climate and culture which as our West Africa trip progressed so did its challenges. (After Namibia we went on to Cameroon, Ghana, Togo, Benin, Burkina Faso)."

"Okaukuejo Camp review"

3 nights Arrived 8 Jul 2013
"Our lives would have been made easier on this trip had we been informed at the beginning of this trip that there were no banking facilities and we would have taken much more cash.

The nocturnal expeditions aboard a truck with driver/guide would have been more enjoyable had we been able to dress more warmly. We were wearing long johns, pakas, warm clothing we are used to wearing in the southern regions of N.Z. but this was not enough. The cloaks provided should be wind proof. We froze. We also suffered from distended bladders!! The trip was after the evening meal and lasted 3 hours. When we returned to the resort everyone raced to the toilets.

What we saw on this trip was indeed memorable."

Okonjima Plains Camp

"Okonjima Main Camp review"

1 night Arrived 11 Jul 2013
"I loved the imaginative yet simple accommodation. It was inspirational.

I had on arrival gone out on a very successful expedition looking for and finding a leopard. This was followed by a delightful evening meal. The next morning an early start for another expedition when we found a family of cheetahs, 1 sister 2 brothers. They had become estranged after an early morning hunt and the sister of the 2 brothers was calling for her brothers by putting much effort into a "meow" that had a powerful vibrato sending it long distance. I walked ahead of the group of people and close to the female cheetah. I wanted to talk to her but didn't. She knew I was just a few metres behind her and she and I both, were comfortable. She was reunited with her brothers and there was much joyful licking going to and fro. This was an experience of a lifetime for me.

After that we rode in the truck and the driver/guide managed to find a Leopard and her cub. This too was a memorable experience."
