Our Fantastic Trip

Zambia between 26 Jun 2011 and 10 Jul 2011

Trip rating: Excellent
"This is the second trip we have made with Expert Africa. Staff are helpful, patient and knowledgeable.

I like the fact that we can talk to a member of staff with first hand experience of the lodges we planned to visit.

Both trips we have undertaken have exceeded expectation. This last one was absolutely fantastic. Every detail was taken care of and we didn't have to worry about anything. All we had to do was pack our bags, turn up at the airport and have the time of our lives.

All three camps were exceptional - I do believe that we chose the best. Staff were efficient, friendly and did everything they could to make our stay very enjoyable. Meals were comparable to good city restaurants which is remarkable considering the logistics of getting supplies.

Expert Africa is the only company I have ever come across that gives travellers a card with Staff emergency telephone numbers. This reflects the care that the company takes to ensure that clients have the best possible service. I wouldn't travel to Africa with any other company.

Thanks everyone - we had a wonderful time. We hope to return."

Kaingo Camp

Kaingo Camp

"Kaingo experience"

2 nights Arrived 27 Jun 2011
"We were met by Patrick at the airport and had our first game drive on the way to camp. This wasn't what we expected but got the sun cream on, the camera out and enjoyed!

On arrival at camp we were welcomed and shown to our room where lunch was served on our deck. With hippos and crocodiles in the river there was plenty to enjoy. The drums called us for afternoon tea and we then headed out on our evening game drive. Ian was our guide for most of our stay at Kaingo and Mwamba. We found all the guides to be knowledgeable, patient and very helpful. This first day set the pace for the rest of our stay.

Breakfasts and dinners were a communal affair as is usual in camps. Food throughout our stay was delicious, plentiful and beautifully served.

Rooms were comfortable and spotlessly clean. Staff were efficient but very friendly.

We loved being wakened and called to meals by the drums. A real African experience.

We chose Kaingo and Mwamba because of the opportunity to use the photographic hides. These were very well situated allowing a close-up view of hippos and birds and were an ideal mid-day activity.

The camp has a great location on the river bank where we liked to sit and watch the wildlife.

The overall experience was superb. Two nights weren't enough!"

Mwamba Bushcamp

Mwamba Bushcamp

"Mwamba experience"

3 nights Arrived 29 Jun 2011
"We took the opportunity to walk from Kaingo to Mwamba with Patrick and enjoyed this very much. Our luggage was taken by road.

Everything at Mwamba was excellent - like Kaingo, and we loved it. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. The accommodation was different but just as comfortable as the sister camp. However, it was more 'bushcamp' than Kaingo which was exactly the experience we wanted. Same high standards but slightly less formal. Of the two camps we preferred Mwamba.

The game drives were terrific and Ian went beyond the call of duty to make sure that we saw what we wanted. Endless enthusiasm and patience from him and Patrick. Many leopard sightings including the beautiful Kylie who didn't seem at all perturbed by our presence. We got some fantastic photos.

We had a wonderful time and we highly recommend Shenton safaris. Everything was well thought out and ran like clockwork. Both camps are a photographer's paradise and they cater for photographers by providing dust cloths and bean bags. It's these little things that make the overall experience so enjoyable.

We plan on returning!"

Old Mondoro Bushcamp

Old Mondoro Bushcamp

"Old Mondoro experience"

4 nights Arrived 2 Jul 2011
"Our third camp on this holiday. We were met by Michael, our pilot, at Lusaka airport and flown to Jeki airstrip in the Lower Zambezi. The only passengers on board, we had a bird's eye view of the river - and what a view! Maurat met us and drove the short distance to the camp. Lunch was waiting for us after which we settled into our new room, on the banks of the river.

Everything about the camp was excellent. There are opportunities for game drives, boat trips, fishing and walking. We chose what we wanted to do and when we wanted to do it. It was also nice just to sit on our deck watching the animals and birds drinking.

Beukes and Jacomine were very attentive hosts. Beukes shared some of his guiding stories around the campfire.
Our very knowledgeable guide was Levy and it was apparent that he is passionate about the environment. Equally knowledgeable, Andrew guided us through the channels of the Zambezi pointing out birds as we floated gently passed hippos. We enjoyed bush walks as well as game drives.

One evening we were about to sit down to dinner when we heard a leopard. Grant (the owner) suggested that we have an additional game drive in the hope of seeing it. We all piled on board the vehicle and went to search out the elusive animal. Great fun, although the leopard was hiding extremely well! We returned to another beautiful meal and fireside chat.

It is the unexpected that we enjoy so much about being on safari. Not knowing what we will encounter next and the flexibility and willingness of staff to do everything they can to make our experience one to remember for a lifetime.

Highly recommended."

Avani Victoria Falls

Avani Victoria Falls

"Zambezi Sun review"

2 nights Arrived 6 Jul 2011
"We only stayed two nights here in order to see the Victoria Falls. The hotel is located a few minutes walk from the falls and is ideally situated.

Staff were pleasant and friendly, rooms clean and comfortable. Food was good and plentiful although after 6pm we were limited to either the buffet or room service.

Activities could have been better. I was directed by reception to the Activities desk where the girl offered cruises or a helicopter ride but couldn't book them as she was 'already knocked off'. Wilderness safaris had many more activities to offer and were willing to book at our convenience."
